Generate a random number?

I want to make a simple template modification to display random content. The the phpBB template syntax have something like: <!-- IF rand(1,2) == 1 --> <p>You're number #1</p> <!-- ELSE --> <p>You're number #2</p> <!-- ENDIF --> I understand I could do this, but I'm not clear on where the PHP portion...

Re: global moderators can't ban by email

"Can send Mass Email", which is an Admin permission. You can assign that permission to the Global Mods usergroup. That didn't work either. I have both "Can send mass e-mail" and "Can manage users" set to yes. Unless the permissions are not properly transferring when I ...

Re: global moderators can't ban by email

Nuts, it doesn't appear to be the "Can manager user" setting alone that determines if the email address field will be prepopulated.

Re: global moderators can't ban by email

No. You do not need a new group. Just give your Moderators group that one Admin permission. Thanks. I couldn't see how to apply admin permissions to the group, but found it at last. For others reference, go to ACP > Permisions > Group Permissions > Select Global Moderators > Submit > Select Admin P...

Re: global moderators can't ban by email

So, for a moderator to be able to ban an email, I need to create a new admin group with an admin role that enables "manage users". And then my moderators need to be a member of both the moderators group, and the admin group? It's not possible to allow this using just a single moderator gro...

Where does language file go for custom CAPTCHA?

I've created a custom captcha. It seems to work with the exception that I've been unable to give it a name in the admin. It appears as a blank item in the list. I assumed from http://wiki.phpbb.com/Captchas that if I created the language file with the right name, and put it in the correct location, ...

Re: [BETA] 3DCaptcha Olympus 0.3.0

I had written a captcha generator a few weeks ago and hadn't had a chance to see how to implement it in phpBB3. I downloaded yours to save myself some time searching through the code for how. Anyway, your install steps lead me to a way to integrate my own captcha generator with a single line of code...

Re: [DEV] StopForumSpam.com automatted banning

I finally got around to putting this on my live site. In the last hour 40 log entries have been recorded from 24 spammers. All of them were identified by their IP bar one who was identified by email address. One spammer was blocked from registration based on the chosen username--unfortunately the co...

How to get $phpbb_root_path when not available?

Sorry, I tried searching for this but it's such a general search there was far to many irrelevant results. I'm writing a mod that needs to include some files within a function. The $phpbb_root_path var is not available. What's the best way to determine the root path? Should/can I just make $phpbb_ro...

Re: Centralised banned IP list?

but banning via IP is mostly a waste of time. most of the spammers are going to be using proxies, and/or getting a new IP all the time. That's right. That's why you can't ban an IP permanently. But banning it for just a few days after the first reports will be enough to prevent the spammer from con...

Re: Centralised banned IP list?

I was thinking that banning by would be sufficient so long as humans are doing the banning--as opposed to intelligent algorithms to identify it. A ip may not be banned until at least 5 forums have reported it within a set period. The ban only needs to last a week and it would potentially protect hun...
