Re: "Too many connections"

Since it was happening once every day or couple of days, I think the server admins set the server up to automatically restart every day at 1 AM. I don't know what else they did, if anything. If it was happening more often than that, I don't know what we'd end up doing. Probably would have to switch ...

Re: Exclude a user while banning its IP?

Unless you're a founder or admin... I banned my own IP and got away with it. Well, thank you, Brf.

Re: "Too many connections"

Despite the server admins trying numerous tweaks to alleviate the issue, it still happens. However, another idea which was previously dismissed but we are now considering again: We've got some large (40 megabytes or so) files hosted. It's a calendar for print full of images. We used the forum's file...

Re: "Too many connections"

Darn! I finished updating the files and less than half an hour later, the problem came back. At first the server simply hangs and any attempt to access the forum results in a connection time out. After a little while, the MySQL error will appear and nothing can be done until the server admin interve...

Re: "Too many connections"

It was the mod that I then attempted to install with the UMIL that went wrong, then. Sorry, it was a while ago.

Re: "Too many connections"

Thanks, Bill. I've followed your instructions closely. Months ago I did try to install the UMIL and things didn't go as planned. I undid that but it's possible I missed something or something else went wrong with an update as you mentioned. Fingers crossed.

Re: "Too many connections"

Ah, I forgot to mention that he increased the connection limit from 500 to 750 and it still happened again within 24 hours. Hmm. I will try to pay attention to how many users are on the forum. Our activity has definitely increased over time. As I write this, there are around 100 guests and 18 users,...

Re: Internal server error on password change / registration

Just in case anyone in the future using Media Temple asks about this problem, I fixed it by going to my control panel and switching the website to PHP 4. Not sure why but the two other options (5.2.17 and 5.3.10) both resulted in registration and password reminder page errors. Kind of disappointing ...

What version of PHP are you using? ACP > System tab > PHP Information 5.2.17 Seems to be a common issue with Media Temple: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=2132442 It's related to sending the emails. If PHP's mail() is bombing out, you might try using SMTP instead. Strangely, I u...

Re: Internal server error on password change / registration

Found some other threads after posting this which say it may be due to my host doing a PHP update. If anyone knows of anything more specific (such as what setting, exactly, or what function, or perhaps an update I can make to the ucp.php file) it would be appreciated.

Re: Unusual / anomalous post count increment problem

Well, I finally got to the bottom of it. One of the other admins creates a weekly thread for photo submissions. Each week, she copies the original thread to a new one and deletes the posts from the old thread so that it then becomes the new thread and the copy becomes the previous week so that the s...
