EU Article 13 and Phpbb?

What do you have to say about the EU Commitee approving Article 13 (We're half there in the decisions) today and the fact that the provider of, in this case, the forum must apply an upload filter to prohibit copyright infrigment. Has this been discussed here yet? https://www.independent.co.uk/life-s...

Re: Are Facebook, VK and other social nets killing your forums?

It would be interesting to see some stats from e.g Phpbb on downloads or likewise. "The death of Forums" due to Facebook is a well established sentence in my niche. Extremely sad, not only for us who likes and runs forums. It is a spiral downwards; stop posting on forums -> less info to index by sea...

Re: Minimum chars on new topic

Ok, I have an edit that might work, if someone is willing to find pitfalls in this feel free. I made edits to posting.php (line ~792) find: $error[] = $user->lang['EMPTY_SUBJECT']; } Add after (on a new line): // Check for minimum length of text with URLs excluded and only on new topic if ($mode == ...

Re: Is there any Android/iOS app development out there?

Thanks, there it was!
I really really hope that the development of that API proceeds.

On my board, mobile has passed desktop, and that is with the Tapatalk apps NOT included.

Some say Desktop is the new print, maybe they´ll right?

Re: Is there any Android/iOS app development out there?

Ah, too bad! I hope you are wrong and that someone is developing this. ;) I disagree with you regarding the need. I have Tapatalk BYO (not public on Tapatalk app) since a couple of months and it´s exploding in usage (web usage are the same, no increase). It is the speed you get from having the layou...

Re: Fix for utf8mb4 emojis

Thanks AmigoJack, I missed that topic in my search! Supplementary, if Im satisfied with altering phpbb_posts, do I need to perform altering of other tables to make it work properly? I dont think so, but I have not tested it out properly. E.g, I was concerned that 'phpbb_search_wordlist' needed to be...

Re: Fix for utf8mb4 emojis

Thanks Oyabun for the reply. Im aware of this and will have that in mind. I wonder if there are any pitfalls otherwise in doing this. Example: "Yes, you can do this, but you won´t be able to upgrade to new releases beacuse converter scripts will fail." Therefor I wonder if there are any known issues...

Re: Fix for utf8mb4 emojis

Thanks for the reply David. Yes, luckely for me Im running on 5.5.44 on both servers. My test above only concerns text in topics and posts, I guess it could be applied to e.g column for PM text and so on as well, but the main concern is in the forum. I would really like to add this fix to my live fo...

Fix for utf8mb4 emojis

Hi, The last year I´ve seen an increase in mysql errors like "Incorrect string value 'xF0 ...' in the logs. Many users would like to use native emojis provided in Android and iOS I guess. I´ve searched around phpbb for a correct solution but not found what I´m looking for. Can someone link to a KB o...

Re: BBCode as topic tagging, parse specific bbcode outside message

Hi Robert and thanks for the answer. Actually I got it working! It was pretty easy in fact, just a preg_match on $row[post_text] (std sql from viewtopic.php) where it sorts out everything within [taggert]xxxx[/taggert]. Then placed in a variable and sent it out in the template variable as described ...

BBCode as topic tagging, parse specific bbcode outside message

Hi, I´m about to build a simple topic tagging system based on bbcode. First off, is there any out there? I´ve searched around but could not find any, please post a link if you know some. I would like to give my users the ability to tag topics. It would be a simple bbcode e.g: [taggert]My tag[/tagger...
