Re: The end of facebook coming?

I feel Google social will never be popular. Everybody is looking for privacy what google dont offer in this state. May one day this will change but a social network like Facebook will always exist. There are constant privacy concerns with Facebook. I'm not sure why anyone would trust them over Goog...

Re: The end of facebook coming?

Google really should focus on developing new technologies rather than trying to limp behind popular services and jump on the wagon when it's to late. ...and something similar was said of FaceBook when MySpace was all the rage. Now MySpace is being sold off for a mere $35M. The end will come to FB, ...

Re: [RC-1] spam hammer: ends spam. period.

Hey all, Spam hammer has been continually successful here. I haven't had to tweak it for quite a while and it's kept all but the most sneaky, persistant human spammers at bay (you know the ones...who post like normal users for a couple weeks then go feral and finally stick spam in the profile/sig ;)...

Portal/CMS/Front Page feature for displaying select topic?

I'm looking for a portal or CMS mod with a specific feature. I've searched a bit but couldn't really find one that seemed to do what I want. I'd like to have a front page on my forum that displays the first post of specific topics. I've seen mods that will pull from select forums but these would be ...

Re: [DEV] phpBB spam hammer

Is there a place where I can download the latest version of what you guys have put together? I've got a client (a church) that's getting hammered with spam. This would be a good solution for them. Download the install package from the first post, grab the latest functions_link_filer.php from SVN: h...

Re: [DEV] phpBB spam hammer

A possible addition, and another hoop for them, would be a maximum number of characters for the first post? I've gotten a few of those. :D Of course, they are usually wall to wall with links, as well. By the time all the links were removed, they'd probably be under any 'maximum number of characters...

Re: [DEV] phpBB spam hammer

I haven't had ANY spambot posts make it through in over a week and since switching from reCaptcha to a simple Q&A captcha spambot registrations are down to nearly 0, as well. It hasn't stopped the human spammers, of course, but they seem to get tired of trying to edit their messages over and ove...

Re: [Discuss] Preventing Spam in phpBB3

If this does what you're implying then you just made my day. The forums I'm working on : http://www.faqsaboutfax.com/forums/ are totally run-over by spam and we're thinking of just re-doing the whole site, but in the mean time I've been delighting myself by using filters to adjust spam words to rui...

Re: [Discuss] Preventing Spam in phpBB3

I've had amazingly good results using only the Q&A captcha along with the phpbb Spam Hammer (previously Disable Links) MOD currently in development. Near as I can tell, 99.9% of spambot activity has ceased and a great majority of "human" spammers have been deterred to the point of not ...

Although, if a member was visiting his site via the address http://blackberryempire.com/forum/ then http://www.blackberryempire.com/forum/ would be seen as an external link, right?

Re: [DEV] phpBB spam hammer

I've noticed, if the domain is http://mysite.com that http://www.mysite.com is treated as an external link as far as spam hammer is concerned. It doesn't affect me as I have www. redirect but...a poster trying to add the www would get the spam warning.

Re: [DEV] phpBB spam hammer

Maybe I'm being vindictive, but I'd like to see them get through some strict membership filters (like Q & A very effective, without testing real users), have to validate their junk address, then work their way through all the word filters. How long is that going to take? Then get deleted :D In ...

Re: [DEV] phpBB spam hammer

Great work, thanks for that! --- This logging stuff is even more fun than I expected... not only are some of the bots really dumb but some of the human spammers seem not so very bright, either. I'm curious about a particular behavior I'm seeing though... Occasionally, I'm seeing something ...

Re: [DEV] phpBB spam hammer

To filter the http://www.ownsite.com without http:// the code does search and replace of http://, then does a second replace of just http://www.ownsite.com. That would get a bit complex to parse and handle the whitelist domains (check for http, remove if there, double search) in the code as it exis...
