Re: Integrating Wiki into phpBB?

I've been using "Auth phpBB" with MediaWiki. This essentially uses the phpBB database for users and authentication. You can also specify a phpBB group (or list of phpBB groups) for which membership is required to edit the wiki. Works well. I then modified the MediaWiki skin to use the same colour sc...

Re: Why is the forum id included in the thread urls?

So it seems that phpBB can determine the forum without the forum ID being in the URL.

The user can determine the forum by looking at the page content.

Therefore the forum ID doesn't need to be in the URL.

Or am I missing something? :-)

Re: Disapproved topic stays in moderation queue but inaccess

Thanks, that solved it.

Some sort of database corruption or code bug, I guess?

Re: Discuss: Google Summer of Code Updates

When it comes to pruning revisions, it would be good to keep the first x revisions and the last x revisions and remove the ones (if any) that are in between. I can imagine that the first edition of a post in particular, is possibly the one you most likely want to see again in some situations. Please...

Re: phpBB ... wise use for small Co ?

You may be better served by a purpose built job tracking system though (but I'm not familiar with those so can't recommend any). However, phpBB should do the job just fine. 1 ... would it be fairly easy (for an expert) to place these 10 or 12 "standard forms" somewhere for easy "pulling up" and plac...

Re: phpBB is a very bad choice for forum

It seems you misunderstood me. My suggestion was that the installer should have Q&A on by default and should force the USER to supply their own questions and answers during installation (and give them the option of choosing some other captcha if coming up with original questions is too hard). Q&A is...

Re: phpBB is a very bad choice for forum

Q&A Captcha could be configured as the default for new installs, and the install procedure could make it compulsory to either change the Captcha to something else (with relevant warnings) or to supply at least X number of Q&A Captcha questions and answers. That would immediately resolve the problem ...

Re: The Best Thing that phpBB Can Do: Merge

Yes, we're remote and very niche (aiming only at bushwalkers in Australia doesn't leave us open to a huge number of people). But we're doing very well in any case. (I don't measure the success of the site by numbers of people, but by the amount and quality of relevant information and by the quality ...

Re: The Best Thing that phpBB Can Do: Merge

Yes, every different competing software has good reasons to be chosen. If you agree with this you have now contradicted your initial statement that "The Best Thing that phpBB Can Do: Merge". That's a very odd conclusion. I never said that phpBB was useless or suited nobody. It is my belief that it ...

Re: The Best Thing that phpBB Can Do: Merge

But to be a little more serious... You are correct. I'm not happy with a board that has released very nearly zero new features since about 2008 (when did phpBB 3.0 come out?). I phpBB3 came out in 2007. However, I would like to point out that phpBB 3.0.6 (released November 2009) contained many new ...

I'm not happy with a board that has released very nearly zero new features since about 2008 (when did phpBB 3.0 come out?). Re: The Best Thing that phpBB Can Do: Merge

Certainly if you prefer to use software that implements features faster at the expense of quality that is your choice to make. To claim however that everyone would be as happy as you are with such an election is either ignorant or arrogant. It seems that your needs are met perfectly by another boar...

Re: The Best Thing that phpBB Can Do: Merge

Really, you want to argue with a development team member over how much effort development process takes? Have you contributed much code to phpbb? If your estimates originate in the world of commercial software, and especially in-house commercial software (and web sites fall somewhere between in-hou...
