On the index page I want it to display not just the last user who has posted but the topic that has been posted on last so you can just click that and be taken straight to the first unread post in the topic.
I have the show latest topics mod but its not ideal.

You shouldn't have any problems but if there are just ask your host about reinstalling. The first backup you made has all your forum in its original format anyway so you should be safe.

Have you copied your smf forums directory (/forums/) into your phpbb directory (/test/)? I assume you have. I work better hands on but I will have a look at my own set up and think about it. go into your phpmy admin through your mysql database and click on the database...all the tables are listed there along with the prefixes. Choose the prefix that has the info you need to convert ;) Have you put both forums in same database or just the users? Everything needs to be in the same databas...
The smf tables have to be in the same database as the phpBB tables. Lol...
