Re: Will Google consider it cloaking if I give bot access to a forum that doesn't have guest access?

Yeah, if you use Google AdSense, then you don't have much option but to still allow that bot in to serve the ads. Adding IP's for bots. Yeah, I know you can do that but not a great idea doing it instead of adding the user agent. Pretty sure even adsense bots will hit you site using multiple differen...

Re: Contact page occasional spam

That extension is not listed as compatible with 3.3.x checking it then.

Maybe it works still with 3.3 version. Don't know? But it's not been updated as working with 3.3

Version 3.2.4 is latest version it's listed as compatible with.

Re: Contact page occasional spam

The Contact Admin extension allows you to include the captcha on the Contact Admin page in existing phpBB versions. That's what's being used at this site , for example. I've seen the argument raised several times "But if you require a captcha on the contact page, how will users contact you abo...

Re: Contact page occasional spam

Just disable it in Admin CP settings. Do you need Contact Us enabled? Not a good idea to enable it in phpBB because there is no anti-spam checking done with it. To be honest, they really should have added anti-spam checking with Contact Us in 3.3 version, or even added a setting to make it so only m...

Re: Will Google consider it cloaking if I give bot access to a forum that doesn't have guest access?

One other thing to keep in mind, phpBB utilizes the user agent to identify bots and it can be spoofed. That's a good point. if you're going to block guests from seeing something, then you really should block bots also with them. As said, it's not hard for a user to spoof themselves as a google bot ...

Re: invisible recaptcha ?

Invisible ReCaptcha just makes it more convenient and less of a hassle for people to register, that's if they pass it and don't need answer any questions on images like the older version.

Re: Swaping GIF topic icons for SVGs

I want to replace my topic icons, which look very dated, with more modern and minimalist SVG files. What do I have to edit to change iconname.gif -> iconname.svg ? Edit. by topic icons I mean those lil ones that users can choose when writing a new thread: https://witch-house.com/forum/images/icons/...

Re: Automatically refresh last topics

Is there an extension that automatically refreshes the latest topics on the index page without refreshing the page in your browser? I seem to vaguely remember there was an extension for it but can't find it. I also thought that Ajax Base extension was the solution for this, but it does not refresh ...

Re: PhpBB vs Vbulletin vs xenforo

Don't waste your time trying to alter the the SEO of phpBB, Google knows how to index stock phpBB sites just fine as they are. There is no need to do it, and you may cause more harm than good - and honestly google isn't indexing forums now like it used to do years ago. Google seem to have a problem ...
