Change Posting Sort Order, DEFAULT for all

Have been trying for years to change the DEFAULT sort order to most recent first. Nobody so far seems to understand the question. It is easy for the user to change his sort order. That is not what I seek to do. I want to change the DEFAULT sort order for the entire board, for all users, to most rece...

Re: [BETA] Facebook like `Like` button

I would dearly love to install a Facebook-similar "Like Button" but find the instructions incomprehensible. I've installed several modifications before, but there is nothing here that makes sense. For example, what in the world does "Git" mean? Could you take another crack at tra...

Re: [BETA] Facebook like `Like` button

Rhino.Freak, thanks for the reply regarding "git" but I'm still lost. I see no "git link" so am pretty well dead in the water. Where is it? And is there any way of making it REALLY simple to implement a "Like" button? This seems to be a frequently requested feature and ...

Re: [BETA] Facebook like `Like` button

I would really like to implement a "Like" button on my phpbb installation, but find the description here unusable. I've done a number of other mods, but this description is quite unclear. For example, I do not have a clue what "git" means. Does anybody have a clear and solid desc...

Re: Add a Like Button to Each Post

I have read message after message here on adding a LIKE button to phpBB, which many of my users keep asking for. It is clear that many administrators would like this, and it is also clear that hardly anybody can figure out how to do it. Oddest of all is some antagonism in some posts here. I would ve...

I have no idea what "git clone" means. Please explain what this is and how to use it.

Re: Default Post Order For Eveveryone

That is really the hard way. And all it does is force your choice on someone who can later change it anyway. With SQL it is trivial to change every user's sort order. Steve, maybe it's trivial to you but I do not have a clue how to do it. Would you please elaborate? I REALLY want to change the defa...

Re: Descending/Ascending Default Order

t means the topics are sorted by their time, either ascending or descending. I will assume you mean posts. This will reset the default and set all users to descending sort order for posts: UPDATE phpbb_users SET user_post_sortby_dir = 'd'; ALTER TABLE `phpbb_users` CHANGE `user_post_sortby_dir` `us...

Re: Display oldest post on top, post date descending order.

I do not want to eliminate the ability of users to choose "ascending" or "descending" post order. Most of my users prefer to read phpBB postings in the same way one would read a calendar, that is starting from the most recent entry instead of the date it was started back in 1997 ...

Re: Display oldest post on top, post date descending order.

I really want a simple and reliable way of changing the global default posting sort order for all users from the default "ascending" (why in the world was that choice made?) to "descending." Can anybody advise on a simple, complete and foolproof way for me to change the global de...

Re: Stopping Spammers

After much wrestling with captchas I gave up and dumped them. Why? They're annoying to users and ineffective against spammers. I implemented a very simple "Custom profile field" under "Users and Groups" that asks every new registrant the simplest of questions, "How many nose...

I've read this thread several times and find myself overwhelmed by confusion, many postings giving differing advice and many saying the advice did not work. I really want a simple and reliable way of changing the global default posting sort order for all users from the default "ascending" ...

You are a genius!
On the one hand, that is so simple I feel like a fool.
On the other hand, it's pretty damn subtle. Maybe I'm not alone in having missed it, so I won't hang my head in shame.

Re: [Split] Linking to Posts was Clickable links in specific

Thanks much but I am feeling like a fool. I don't seem to know the correct way to determine the value of a postlink. I've been looking at the URL of the message title, getting things that look like: http://maisestudio.com/rock/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=226#p6765 whereas your value is http://maisestudi...

Re: [Split] Linking to Posts was Clickable links in specific

On the Rockbridge Forum board Wise One set his preference to "descending." I find that one can follow the following links if the reader has set his also to "descending" but that it fails if he has set it to "ascending". In this message he references another message . Th...
