Re: Please stop sending me spam

Headers can be forged and phpBB.com would not use a Gmail account.

Re: Discuss: phpBB 3.1.0 Beta2 released

What's phpBB long term plan to remain relevant as forums seem to be losing popularity to other mediums like Tumblr, Reddit comments, and so on? I am glad to see 3.1 finally come out; I remember contributing towards its planning a decade ago. :(

Re: The Best Thing that phpBB Can Do: Merge

I get really bored when I hear this. Release timelines seem to work for other volunteer based projects , and it can and should be assumed that each volunteer can contribute X hours per week/month as an average meaning that you should be able to provide some sort of timeline. I agree it isn't as eas...

Re: phpbb3 and e107 dual authentication

Dual authentication will prove challenging. Either you have a central list of users that both apps use, or you need to do write a script to do a two-way sync regularly.

Re: The Good Old "This board has no forums" Error After Upgr

Pull up the SQL queries and run the forums one manually and see if the results are coming back. Tweak it until you work out which clause is causing them to not appear.

Re: The Best Thing that phpBB Can Do: Merge

I don't think you should worry about javascript being turned off in the Facebook era (though still graceful fallback). Conversely, phpBB (and other forums) aren't built upon JS to the level Facebook is so it's not necessary.

Re: The Best Thing that phpBB Can Do: Merge

I don't know about other devs but after coming home from work I don't feel like coding more. I imagine that feeling is quite common so if you want good quality volunteer work it's going to be slow. If you could work on phpBB and get paid then it'd be a different story.

Re: phpbb Ads

Wordpress and phpBB have very different target markets. What works for one might not necessarily work for the other.

Re: A little feedback

They're quite logically laid out if you understand how they work. Unfortunately thought you're right, there is quite a steep learning curve and I often have to jump in and help clients when they're adding new forums.

Re: Purge the cache creates huge server load ?

If it's a high traffic board it's possible that purging the cache will cause all the next set of requests to each try and regenerate it. At work, we have a similar issue with some other non-phpBB software to the point where we actually have to kill Apache while we clear its cache otherwise the incom...

Re: The spamming bots. What are they? Infected computers?

One common technique used by spam bots is when it encounters a captcha, it sends the image off to a hacked computer (usually part of a botnet), indicating to the user that they have to solve it [for whatever reason]. The result is sent back to the bot which uses the human-generated response to compl...

Re: Front Page News Syndication

Hello, I have just about read every post and have done some of the stuff suggested but I cannot get this PHP Debug crap to go away. [phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /includes/session.php on line 1007: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/ohgaming/publ...

Hrm, I think I might hardcore this list into one of my applications though I'd be quite concerned if anyone actually used one of these passwords, lol.
