sig field guideline controversy

help me out, fellow forum captains. At our forum we like to keep signatures pretty quiet. We allow them, but ask that people keep it to five lines of text and no images except emoticons. We got a newbie who said the sig field wasn't big enough so he just posted this wall of like ten quotes he liked ...

Re: the updates. always the updates.

What kind of board are you running that updates take hours? I can update my installation in minutes. I think I've only ever run into an issue when going from 3.1.0 to 3.1.1 and it was my fault anyway. ;) You have to admit, updates are much easier than the old 2.0.x updates were... In a way though I...

the updates. always the updates.

I've been running phpbb for over ten years. I like many things about it, especially the 3.1 update. lots of great mods were incorporated, the responsive stylesheets is a godsend. I also run wordpress and mediawiki. but phpbb is by far the biggest maintenance nightmare, always has been. every time I ...

Re: Adding a new link in the header

do you still have to refresh styles when you change a template like in 3.0? I can't find that option... I added a link in my navbar_header.html but no changes I make seem to be showing up.

which captcha worked for you?

I just installed the 3.1.1 and I'm using the "simple image" plugin to prevent spambots. It's not doing anything, I had about ten register just today. I notice there are five options for captcha now and wondered what you are are using, does anything prevent the spambots? I haven't managed to find a w...

Re: search engines won't index my boards

oh I forgot about tapatalk - I installed that a few weeks ago. Only the bare minimum though, not the push notifications that require lots of edits, just the header stuff and the directory so people can access my forum through tapatalk. they really like it. I swear other than that I really try to avo...

Re: search engines won't index my boards

That's weird,.. I can get there just fine, even logged out! Weve had new post, And I've had new members register today so somebody can get to it!

I said custom, it's pro silver but I've rewritten the whole header/forum files to match my website so it's hard to recognize it. That was years ago though.

Re: why does ucp.php get so many views?

I'm mostly wondering if it's spambots trying to brute force, and if there's anything I could do to stop it, ESPECIALLY if it's not normal.

All that bandwidth is expensive and uses server resources. I don't mind resources going to my community, but if it's just getting eaten by bots, this bothers me.

why does ucp.php get so many views?

Every month I look at my statistics and ucp.php is my most viewed page but a LOT. I mean last month, it got over 400,000 views. My viewtopic.php page got 80,000 and that makes more sense, it's shown every time a topic is viewed, it's worth showing the world. But ucp.php? That's just for logging in, ...

Re: refreshing ranks?

THANK YOU! I knew it was something simple like that... actually since it's an outside script I just added a line to delete /cache/data_ranks.php but now it's working, I just hadn't thought of looking in that cache folder!
