Re: Is there a word limit to how much you can post?

EDIT: Looks like we use 'mediumtext', which is quite a bit larger at 16 Megabytes. So for single byte characters, that is a maximum of 16,000,000 without changing the schema. An average book (250 words per page with 300 pages) has roughly 500,000 characters. 100,000,000,000,000 / 500,000 = 200,000,...

I'm no longer maintaining this modification—the style in 3.1 is responsive, so there is no need for this.

Re: Why MODs?

Then user is really stupid. In both cases its very obvious that it refers to a modification and not a mod. And when in doubt you should always pick modification because 'modification' in form of a release or project is in most cases refered as 'mod', while 'moderator' is in most cases refered as 'm...

Re: Why MODs?

Thank you for your response. Shouldn't it be rather obvious given a context though? - Mods like to drink coffee. - I have downloaded a lot of mods for my site. - Need help installing this mod. - That nazi mod banned me. - That mod's version is 3.5.1! - One of the mods stole my bike. Even if there w...

Re: When will phpBB have a Great Visual Upgrade?

You want to see a sexy forum software, check out Xenforo. XF isn't perfect but the use of a lot of whitespace gives it a much cleaner look. Do you find the $140 price tag "sexy", too? Maybe you could offer one of the style developers $140 and get a Xenforo-like style, too. Steve $...

Re: Use of HTML 5.1 <picture>?

What? Why would you need the picture element in phpBB? Sure, srcset and sizes might be useful—although phpBB is low resolution already, and not at all set up with a front-end build system—but definitely not the picture element . I suspect you're confused: http://blog.cloudfour.com/dont-use-picture-m...

It won't, if you do it like that.

Re: What do you think about Markdown?

But really, who uses their mobile devices for that much anyways? Does anyone expect to write well formatted documents on their phone? No, they don't--people use their phones for quick tasks and leave in depth work to devices with more usable input. It would be far worse on a mobile device for the 9...

Re: What do you think about Markdown?

There are things that MarkDown does not allow. How would do you MarkDown for a spoiler? AFAIK there's still no well defined (if it exists anywhere) MarkDown markup for that. In order to do that you will have to go into BBCode territory (even if you are still typing in MarkDown). For those kinds of ...

Re: Security improvement: separate loginID from nickname

a) It isn't a security issue
b) People will just choose the same userID and nickname, and will get annoyed if you force them to be different
c) Textbook security through obscurity?
d) Why not just use the email address? It's not public, right? (or it shouldn't be)

Bashing by saying we're going "in the wrong direction" is not constructive If you feel this way, explain why you feel this way. If applicable, provide facts and figures of other projects that went this direction. Saying it sucks helps nobody. And on Area51, not here—nobody will see...

Re: Ideas Support topic

Hi, I tried to install ideas. I copied everything into a subfolder called "ideas" underneath my phpbb installation directory. I created the following config.php <?php // phpBB Ideas configuration file define('PHPBB_ROOT_PATH', '../'); define('IDEAS_FORUM_ID', 11); define('IDEAS_POSTER_ID'...
