Re: [BETA] Facebook Connect 0.3.4

Hi, So I installed Facebook Connect on the forum I maintain today (installed it by hand). It was easy and relatively bug-free, which was great. Good work, Hans. Here are a few notes: 1. The interface on fbconnect_body.html could be improved, and the language tightened. I added an extra submit button...

Re: [BETA] Facebook Connect 0.3.4 and autologin issues

Not sure if these have come up yet; Selecting "Log me on automatically each visit" then using facebook connect causes a 404. It redirects to /fbconnect.php&autologin=1 for me. This could have to do with phpbb-seo and mod rewrite though? Facebook Friend / Forums Friends; User X signs up to my forms ...

Censoring the word used for a donkey.

Hey, so, say I want to censor the word "ass." However, I don't want to censor the word "assume." Is there a way to accomplish this?

Also, and this is kind of separate, but if I wanted to write the word fuck all I have to do is insert BBCode to break the word.

Re: Facebook Connect & phpBB

I started working on something that does this today. It doesn't look simple. If there's anyone else working on something like this, get in touch with me.

Re: IP Ban list for 28.5% of China

Interesting -- I just pulled the dotted IP range for India: 113.11.224.0-113.11.231.255 113.19.0.0-113.19.255.255 113.30.128.0-113.30.255.255 113.193.0.0-113.193.255.255 113.197.104.0-113.197.111.255 113.212.64.0-113.212.95.255 114.30.72.0-114.30.79.255 114.31.128.0-114.31.191.255 114.31.224.0-114.3...

Re: IP Ban list for 28.5% of China

Is this even ethical? :? Surely there are much more precise methods of spam control than doing something so blunt as you suggest. The phpbb site I maintain is for a geographic-based community -- most of our traffic comes from Colorado, USA, some of it from USA, and very little from outside the USA....

Where's phpbb's support for DNSBLs?

IP Ban list for 28.5% of China

Hi, I was sick of China coming onto our board, posting its requests for WOW gold and handbags. So instead of banning IP addresses one at a time, I started work on banning the entire country. With the help of the IP address range lists at I started this list of China's IP addresses, http://www.apnic....

Re: phpBB3 Search function locks up server.

On our phpbb3 install, the server logs all database queries that take longer than five seconds. Most of this list is occupied by search queries, such as: Count: 1 Time=41.00s (41s) Lock=0.00s (0s) Rows=223.0 (223), db24723[db24723]@localhost SELECT SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS p.post_id FROM (phpbb3_search_w...

Support group for small, medium and large phpbb sites

Hey, so I was thinking just now: You know, it would be great if there were support groups for people who run small phpbb sites, people who run medium sites and people who run large ones. Anybody know if there's anything like that out there yet? Seems like it would be an easy and valuable thing to do...

MySQL config

Hi, So the phpbb board I work for ( http://neighbors.denverpost.com -- it does about 1000 posts per day) started having database issues last week. A contractor changed the MySQL config file and didn't save a backup, and now we're bouncing back and forth between the max_connection wall and the "maxin...

Re: SQL Eerror

The Denver Post's PHPBB3.0 forums moved to a VPS in August, but it wasn't until September that this problem started happening. We've got a 1GB of RAM ceiling on the VPS, and now, usually once a day, we have to kill the mysql process and start it up again due to this "SELECT SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS p.pos...

More explanation on the actual problem

Sorry, I didn't go into detail on the actual output of the problems. This problem showed up in the Time Zone input field on the Register page, which I was registering dummy accounts. Before this weekend the Time Zone field there had defaulted to the tz specified in the admin (without a user preferen...
