Re: are spammers vindictive?

IP Banning is also unlikely to work, I’d just recommend proper anti-spam measures, such as extensions to protect the contact form functionality from being used like that. They're still going at it quite consistently. Been just putting temporary bans(7 days at the moment) but they keep switching to ...

are spammers vindictive?

So, I ignored something for several days. On the "who is online" page there were three IPs from the Ukraine. Two were a 48. something and the other was 178. something I believe. These were showing "replying to topic in _____" which they of course can't do as non-registered users. So I was confused w...

Re: auto update timeout

Thanks guys. I went to the link and followed a few suggestions. Deleted the two files in the Store folder and also tried a different method(on my 3rd or 4th try) by selecting to install via direct file access rather than the ftp that time. Not sure which of those things helped the most but it all wo...

auto update timeout

I did it again... From 3.2.2 to 3.2.5 I tried the automatic updater and got stuck with a timeout. Here's that discussion. I'm going from 3.2.5 to 3.2.7 today and decided to try the automatic update package, again. Last time, lumpy said things changed a few versions ago and the auto update has proble...

Re: managing bots

Should happen out of the box when you use the acp functions Maybe you need to empty the session table. That's what I thought... And I will try relisting the bot the way I wanted, with the agent match, unblock the IP and see if it or another comes back that gives me trouble. Perhaps empty the sessio...

Re: managing bots

Have you put it in the Bots group? I guess I didn't state the facts clearly, I apologize for that. I tried, and tried, and tried. On the page for spiders/robots in the ACP I try listing it as a bot for that reason. So that it will show up as a registered bot rather than a guest, and then have whate...

managing bots

Sometimes I view the who is online and look for new bots showing up. When I find one that doesn't display as a robot, I change it so it will. Sometimes that seems to work, other times it doesn't seem to and I'm not quite sure why. This is not the first time. Right now I'm trying to get Mozilla/5.0 (...

Re: backgrounds

Thanks both of you. Good info. I'll look at it more in a while... have a jigsaw puzzle and a 4 year old calling my name. For anyone that has made their own backgrounds, or got some from the internet, what are good sizes? Dimensions as well as file size... I'm kind of thinking if I create my own a ti...

backgrounds

Pardon my ramblings.... Do many people use background images for their forums? I was toying with the idea... but am curious if that would add or take away. I was thinking of a dark background with snowflakes or something... i love snow. :) but I'm curious if backgrounds are used often? What people t...

Re: 3.2.2 to 3.2.5 automatic

update... looks like it worked... so far. I'll come back if I run into any problems... but the board is up and running. Now I have to play with what might be new and, more importantly, try to remember everything I had originally changed for the color scheme, etc... yay... ha
Thanks.

Re: 3.2.2 to 3.2.5 automatic

uploading a folder to the server when there is already one of the same name does NOT overwrite that folder. it will only overwrite files inside that folder that have the same name as files inside the new folder. any other files will not be touched. Thanks. That's what I was unsure of... At the time...

Re: 3.2.2 to 3.2.5 automatic

combine having 5 kids to watch and a slow connection and, I'm just getting back to this. I don't know what was going on but downloading the full package failed first and when I started it over, it was almost done but was then downloading at 11-15kb/sec rather than the 150+ I might normally see. Oh w...

Re: 3.2.2 to 3.2.5 automatic

things changed a few versions ago and the auto update has problems as you have seen. There is nothing wrong with the latest autoupdater I did allready 10 boards without any problem. I was used to using that method... but I definitely ran into trouble there. And thanks for everyone's patience as I t...

Re: 3.2.2 to 3.2.5 automatic

So, updating the full package? this??? Updating using the full package is the recommended update method for boards without modifications to core phpBB files. First, you should make a copy of your existing config.php file; keep it in a safe place! Next, delete all the existing phpBB files, you should...

Re: 3.2.2 to 3.2.5 automatic

I tried what janus suggested first as it sounded quick and easy. No joy there. :( So, I'll move on to burger's... I didn't create any backups(silly me) today... but, I don't think anything at all actually updated. Kind of wonder if I just deleted the install folder(or renamed) if the board would sim...
