Re: A more modular approach to modding :P ?

Ah, so phpBB2 is finished when it comes to new versions ? I see phpBB3 is still "beta" and thought it wasn't mainstream and this forum was just a proof of concept. Well that could be a good and bad thing. That will mean it can be modified/extended without this problem of mods being broken on the nex...

A more modular approach to modding :P ?

Every time I install a new forum to start a community I get tempted to mod it and give it some new features. This is fine until the next phpBB release comes up and I have mod things all over again. I know about the script that can automate to modding process but this requires to install EasyPHP loca...

Re: No Bots Mod.

It is a good idea to stop the memberlist from being publicly accessible. Some spambots simply register to have their site link on there.

Re: Pay to Register before Login

Paypal supports redirection to a new page after payment doesn't it ? This could be used. The problem would be to stop people accessing the registration page directly and to confirm payment somehow. If it is only possible by a human then some sort of registration queue needs to be made.

Save IP when register

Is there a mod that saves the IP when a registration is completed ? Unfortunately phpBB only displays IPs when you actually post a subject. I want to collect some ips that have been spamming my domain for years and make sure they stop eating up ressources.

Re: Disgusting practise using phpBB forum software

It doesn't say anything about a free backup that I saw. Indeed. But it is worded such that a person is led to believe that it is free : FREE BULLETIN BOARD FEATURES: ... * Easy backup and restore Then you aren't justified in saying the price is too expensive. You are right. But I am still tempted t...

Re: Disgusting practise using phpBB forum software

Ok, one more post... If you have a problem with the GPL license then present me with a workable alternative. I don't know and it would be very pretentious for me to do so. I imagine the ideal behind the gpl is to give access to code and tools to the greater number while going against closed software...

Re: Disgusting practise using phpBB forum software

This is software, not a moral conundrum. After the software has been packaged, it can be used for basically anything under the confines of the GPL. There is nothing phpBB can nor wants to do about it. You are right. These are moral questions and I am not one to push morals in other people's faces. ...

Re: Disgusting practise using phpBB forum software

As Kevin said above, we have nothing to do with that site. It is strange that you feel they are somehow obligated to provide you with a backup at no charge. Well, I think I've already stated that I perfectly understood that. It's the usage of the software the appears problematic. Lets push things t...

Re: Disgusting practise using phpBB forum software

Gah, I suppose you are referring to this thread : http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=102152 Well it was posted 4 years ago and I probably read it back then :/ . It still remains that some people are making dishonest money on the backs of the phpBB team. I understand that making an s...

Re: Disgusting practise using phpBB forum software

It's fairly common practice in the free forum business. It's got nothing to do with phpBB. Ah yes, kind of like a venus flytrap. I'll have to disagree that it has nothing to do with phpBB. I'm not implying that the devs behind phpBB are responsable in any way but it is their software that is being ...

You're probably right :P . I'm assuming LoanChau is from Asia though so I don't know if the latin1 statement has it's importance. It should work fine without unless there's something special you have to do with double-byte characters.
