Re: Remote Avatar File Size Checker

phpBB3 does not check either dimensions or filesize when linking off-site avatars. And there is no place in the admin control panel to specify how large of an off-site avatar to allow.

Remote Avatar File Size Checker

A Remote Avatar File Size Checker that restricts a user from using a remote avatar that exceeds the maximum dimensions and file size specified in the board config (so people don't end up using a 1024x768 wallpaper, or a 500KB image, as their avatar). Basically, when a user added a new remote avatar,...

Re: "View More Smilies"

I know this is an old thread, but I'm having the exact same issue with phpBB 3.0.2. When I click on "View more smilies", the popup window appears correctly. But when I click on a smilie, it inserts the smilie code at the top of the pop-up window rather than in the post area.

A.I. BOT - You've made a great mod. 8) I think it would get more attention if you renamed your mod to "User Warn/Ban Mod (Neptune)" or something like that. Nobody knows what "Neptune" is until they look inside the topic. And many people who could use a warning mod probably skip by this topic because...

Do you happen to have instructions on how to keyword only the subject lines? That's something I'd really like to do (in lieu of getting rid of search completely). I found some mods that allow you to search subject only, but that's only on the user end (everything still get indexed for search). I am...

Modifying Search to index only topic titles

Due to server resource limitations, I would like to change the search function to index only the post titles. In functions_search.php , I have done the following: Removed "$post_text" from this line: function add_search_words($mode, $post_id, $post_text, $post_title = '') Deleted this line: $search_...

New user registration: confirm e-mail instead of password

For those using e-mail activation for new user registrations, it is much more important for the e-mail to be free of typos than the password (the password is e-mailed to the user as long as their e-mail is typed correctly). Does someone know how to change the registration form so that the new user h...

Perhaps coincidentally, this started happening to me after I upgraded my phpBB from 2.0.18 to 2.0.19. I guess I'll have to install 2.0.18 again to find out.

Actually 9 is the default level on phpBB. And yes, sometimes you don't get a whole lot more compression from 5 to 9, but it can vary.... Do you happen to know which level(s) typically give the best balance between compression and server load? If decreasing the compression level doesn't lower the co...

Does this mod download the complete remote image before checking the file size? Or is it able to stop downloading at the specified limit (or a little over it)?

My conclusion is that if a forum is getting big enough to the point where adding entries to the search engine takes too long, then the alternative really should be to have Google crawl through your pages. Another alternative is to keyword only the subject lines. Stuff like putting the keyword routi...

Cool mod. 8)

Is 5 the typical, default value?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but once you get up to 8 or 9, you're not gaining much more compression for the additional processing power.
