Well, I think that if the INITIAL post of a topic is deleted, the whole idea of that post mostly is gone.

Yes, but mostly the users want their entire profile removed.
Ok, I can rename it and change the emailaddress.
But I think it would be convenient to have the possibility to track/group the posts after deleting an account.

I am still running my main site on 3.0.x, but only because we are HEAVILY and CUSTOM modded.
Will take some $$$ to upgrade that stuff. But I will do that eventually. Maybe. Sometime.
