Re: Facebook groups major competitor to forums!

Facebook adds ease as it provides a good deal of notifications as well as most people are already registered so there is no real signup when joining a group. I've been able to combat this by using a few tools to auto update a facebook page with forum/blog posts from my site. People get notified thro...

Show to guests only

I was hoping to develop a little bbcode that will display text, but only to guests.

Code: Select all

[guestview]{TEXT}[/guestview]

<!-- IF not S_USER_LOGGED_IN and not S_IS_BOT -->{TEXT}<!-- ENDIF -->
I thought the above would work but it failed. Any advice on what I'm missing?

Re: how can i make my forum not open to general public?

Set the group forums permissions for guests to 'no access'. Although then people may not know what they're registering for if they can't see any of it. If the user would like the guests to see the forum but not be able to read it couldn't he go into advanced permissions and set it as such?: Can pos...

Random user's avatar displayed

I'm looking for a code, or anything really, to display a random user (Avatar) to guests. I'd like it to pull from the images/avatars/upload folder. Just a snippet of code that I could put in the overall_header.html file if possible. I've tried a few php scripts that I was able to find on the net wit...

Re: Change time format for guests only

Thank you, it is a strange question I guess.

I know the rest of the things I setup for the anonymous account work, but for some reason the preferences section doesn't seem to have an effect.

Re: Change time format for guests only

Well that was in the first post. I was hoping to find a way to change the guest time but not the board time. So for the guests to see "g:i a" but when they register their date format be "D M d, Y g:i a" I'd like the board itself (and when the guest registers to be the standard "D M d, Y g:i a") but ...

Re: Change time format for guests only

Complete verbatim to your steps (did the same thing the first time) and there has been no changed. Purged both the sessions and cache multiple times and checked with multiple browsers which had their complete history purged. Still showing the standard date time. It's the forum in my signature if tha...

Re: Change time format for guests only

Robert,
Thank you for the response (and your time), but sadly this hasn't remedied the problem. I cleared the cache (both in the admin panel and my personal cache) and purged all sessions, but it still shows the standard time format for guests.

Change time format for guests only

I was wondering how one would go about changing the time format the guests sees, but not the date format for the board itself? I'd like the board itself (and when the guest registers to be the standard "D M d, Y g:i a") but I would like the guest view before registering to be "g:i a". Any idea how t...

Re: MySQL query load reached (Need tips to lower usage)

There are some mods installed. I am looking for more of a best setting for let's say a vanilla board.

Re: MySQL query load reached (Need tips to lower usage)

I've changed the search settings and such. Any other tips to lower the load on the server and the amount of MySQL queries?

MySQL query load reached (Need tips to lower usage)

I'm wondering what can be done to lower the MySQL query load in phpbb3. I was wondering what the optimal settings are in some of the ACP functions under places like "Server Configuration" Would changing settings such as lowering session length or view online time span help with this at all? Any tips...

Re: FAQ: phpBB 3.0.7 / 3.0.8 ATOM feed

I've been working with the feed and I am trying to figure out the correct URL to show a feed displaying new topics in a specific forum. For example: feed.php?mode=topics&f=10 But that shows the new topics for all of the boards. And the other way: feed.php?f=10&mode=topics Shows all the posts from fo...
