Moving posts/forums from one site to another

I guess it's impossibile but before giving in... Just imagine someone has a forum on a given site, he/she wants to open a new forum on another site and move some threads or some forums to the newly created one. Not ALL the forum (in that case moving the DB could be a solution), just SOME threads/for...

Forum pruning settings

I set a couple of forum to be pruned but I can't remember how often I set it to happen. If I go to ACP -> Forums -> Prune Forums I can't see any setting: both "Days since last posted" and "Days since last viewed" are blank.

Is there a way to get that information?

Thanks.

"Common word threshold", is it a good idea to change it?

What kind of improvement in DB size can I expect if I move from 5% (the default) to 3%? I've got problem in disk space and I'd like to reduce it. Now the biggest table is php_search_wordmatch which account for about 60% of DB size. I had a very quick look at php_search_wordlist and found a lot of "s...

Re: Polls and privacy

Adam, the problem is not how to understand who voted what. it's more like a privacy problem: people who voted didn't want their vote to be known. I'm happy with your reply, that you can't do it using the board software, I was just wondering why someone had the idea to keep in the DB a link between a...

Re: Polls and privacy

Possible? Yes. But not through phpBB. You'd have to go into the database directly and compare poll IDs with topic IDs, and vote IDs with user IDs. - Adam Funny, I can't understand any reason to track who voted what. Was it a choice or just a consequence of some other board feature implementation? C...

Polls and privacy

A doubt has been thrown on my board: can an administrator see how users vote on polls? Or better, if I make a poll, is there a way for me, the administrator, to know who voted for any option? I don't know any way to do it, so I replied it's impossible, but I'm not sure I gave the right answer. NOTE:...

Re: Error log: Session IP/browser/X_FORWARDED_FOR check fail

I "solved" it by going to ACP -> "Security settings" and setting to "no" "Validated X_FORWARDED_FOR header:" or setting to "none" "Session IP validation:". Or maybe both, I can't remember, anyway now I have them set to "no" and "none" and the log is cleaned.

Re: How to moderate one user?

Sorry, i can only set the "on moderation queue" on a forum by forum basis, I'd like to put a user on moderation queue, without having to specify it on every forum. How can I do it? Ciao, Max set it for all forums for that user. robert If I go to ACP -> Users and groups -> Users' permissions, I inse...

Any example about what PHP can do that Perl can't? I know Perl but I know very little about PHP.

Re: web applications: advantages of PHP over Perl (or viceversa)

Uhhm, mixture of PHP and HTML, problematic? It has to be that way, HTML is the standard for displaying data over the web. If you generated page content with perl, you'd have to use HTML all the same. The only exception is if one were to use XML, but that's just the same thing; it's necessary to gen...

Re: How did you get your first members?

I was on a forum, there was a quarrel between the administrators and some users. Some of them were banned. I setup a forum on a free server and told two of them (using aMSN) they could join it. They told other people who told other people... other users left the first forum, some others decided to b...

web applications: advantages of PHP over Perl (or viceversa)

Dear all, there is a web application which is at a "prototype" level. It's been developed in C# using ASP. There are now two possibilities: 1) start a (probably) huge refactoring activity to get it to a "production" level; 2) rewrite it from scratch. C# force you to use IIS + Windows OS + hardware t...

Re: How to moderate one user?

Why would you not want to ban, or otherwise get rid of this member? If it's spamming you board, why waste your time approving its spam posts/messages. Chances are, it's probably a spam bot and not an actual person anyways. My board is a kind of sociological experiment, a "self regulated web communi...
