Re: [3.0.8] Unable to set categories as parent forums

I too was able to replicate this fault and raised an issue tracker here:

http://tracker.phpbb.com/browse/PHPBB3-10676

Re: Why does the default theme use XHTML?

There's a whole post in this thread dedicated to established experts in this area who recommend HTML over XHTML, I'm not going over it again. Please feel free to come back to me when you find articles written by established experts that recommend XHTML over HTML, I'd be very interested in seeing tho...

Re: Why does the default theme use XHTML?

The conclusion is pretty much this... This article has sought to show that the move back from XHTML 1 to HTML 4 was a retrograde step. I’ve demonstrated how there is value in using XHTML, even if only some browsers can truly benefit from it, and this continues to underpin my belief that XHTML is bet...

Re: Why does the default theme use XHTML?

Neither of you can give me a definitive answer anyway, so what does it matter?

Re: Feature requests?

You only ever installed phpbb once? How did you get so good? *grin*

Hardly appealing for users when the installer is crap is it?

Re: Why does the default theme use XHTML?

This is starting to get too opinionated now...

Let's face it, there's no experts advising you to use XHTML 1.0, so why use it, when there's experts advising you to use HTML 4.01?

Let's talk facts.

Re: Feature requests?

Having it on less page for a start, I think I counted about 8 pages...

Take a look at wordpress's 5 minute setup, they defiantly got that right.

Re: Why does the default theme use XHTML?

SVG isn't within HTML. It's outside HTML, as it were. Not so with XML. In other words, there is no way to craft the SVG specification without using XML (or something like it). Nothing to do with XHTML then. The W3C isn't official, as critics of XHTML frequently point out. It is advisory only. A bit...

Re: Why does the default theme use XHTML?

As far as I am aware you can include SVG files in HTML like normal image files. XHTML has nothing to do with it. The only time it does is down to in-line SVG. Yet none of this matters because of compatibility issues, which just adds to a case against XHTML really. You can have strict semantic HTML, ...

Re: Feature requests?

Ultimately, my first issue with phpBB3 is the installer. It's far too long, and could be improved quite considerably to make it easier and simpler for users to install. It's part feature request, part improvement suggestion. I'd like to see a better installer. I had a few other suggestions on possib...

Likewise, you can not demonstrate one real world, practical benefit to using XHTML 1.0, not one.

Blindly upgrading is a stupid concept.

Where are the expert articles that say XHTML is a "de facto standard"?

Re: Why does the default theme use XHTML?

The difference is that there's no benefit using XHTML 1.0 over HTML 4.01, there is in using CSS, but the more compatible the better really. Besides, anything lower than IE6 is now considered a write off, however IE6 and above are still very widely used. I guess we won't really know what's going to h...

Re: Why does the default theme use XHTML?

I haven't red the articles that you linked, but my first thought by looking at the dates is: We're living in 2008 and not '02 :o! So somehow I have the feeling that the issues addressed in those articles are fixed. Heh, this is just it, they haven't, yet people are just going ahead and using it mak...

Re: Feature requests?

It's here . I followed your link, and ended up here http://area51.phpbb.com/phpBB/ , there I saw a section entitled "New features discussion", yet in the description it says "Don't post bug reports, feature requests...". Please can someone provide me with a link to where feature requests can be sub...

Re: Why does the default theme use XHTML?

Here's what the experts are saying... Ian Hickson, a former developer of the Opera browser and cofounder of the WHATWG (2002-09-08). " Sending XHTML as text/html Considered Harmful ". Anne van Kesteren, a developer of the Opera browser (2004-06-13). " XHTML is invalid HTML ". Maciej Stachowiak, a de...
