Once you get it (the template system) you'll find that you never want to use another echo again... it's so much cleaner to do all your coding and then have your output all in one array... if you make your template, then set up your array, then code, you'll know exactly what you're coding towards, an...

Why do that, when instead you could just always have the columns there? I've never seen the code for NutPort, but it seems like if you run your menus in the header and footer of the page, which are always included, then you can decide when and how you want to show them in each individual page, as lo...

Probably you could use php's IMAP functions (or someone's library) to read from an addy that you set up specifically for phpBB. Number of caveats tho... passwords would have to be in cleartext right in the message, and the formatting of the emails would have to be pretty strict. (XML?) IMO, the best...

the phpBB portal project (the official one) won't be released until after phpBB 2.0.4 since it's using features from that release. Some of the current portals can be integrated with your phpBB standard release, and some can't. Depends on the individual portal and how cocky the coder was/is. (-;

It can be either, both, or none. I could display them all with no blocks, have only the right blocks, only the left blocks, or anything I want. I can display every other block in the database, I can display them by regexp matches, basically any boolean function can be used to determine the output of...

You'll have to get the Vertex code from someone who got it before I unreleased it, but that particular version of the code sucks. I can help you with a simple block system if you'd like, it's not hard. Just IM me or something (theflib) and I'll blab at you.

Hopefully, or at any rate in the future that I forsee, it will become a good portal on its own. It's not going to be Nuke, and it's going to be Admin regulatable. (Although things like profanity can, of course, be edited by staff) Left on its own, however, Vertex should run itself. Globbing is going...

I've changed a lot of stuff tho, so any mods with hardcoded values will do silly things like make all moderators into adminstrators, and staff/admins would have no permissions at all. Anonymous users would become regular users, and regular users get global mod powers. As long as the mods use the con...

I don't know how nutzy does it, but if the columns are in the header and footer then they'll display on every page that includes them. It wasn't difficult to do, probably a simple mod, although I haven't looked at the code for NutPort.

Nodes... that's pretty cool. I didn't get it at first, this is the edit. Yeah, yeah, nodes could definitely replace articles and function as a totally open CMS. Also, no need to implement comment support. E2... perl? I mean... this is the twenty-first century... psht... perl. (Just kidding. I love p...

I don't know about comments... if I'm posting in my blog I don't care what people think. I was thinking about doing a legit CMS with a queue and letting staff post/delete/edit them, but that would mean making news seperate from blogs, which means a lot more work. I can do it, maybe Vertex 2.1... I'l...

I could just cut it to one blog entry per page, too. Then the blocks would go twice the length of the page. Or, if I were REALLY slick, I could find the distance that the blocks go down the side and cut off blogs when they reach that length. Or I could just make more blocks. Making blocks is easy, I...

Hardcore... I love the implications. Either it's a rugged man's portal... or it doesn't work. Owell... I'll hit the sack and maybe get some input from the other side of the world overnight.

But but... you can't just say 'more features'!!! The reason I'm releasing and asking for feedback is that people can say what kind of stuff they want. I'm working on a overall search that includes blogs/articles/posts and can sort by category and author or combinations and stuff... lots of regexps a...

Vertex Beta 1

I don't know if anyone cares to give it a shot, but I'd love some feedback. I've released a semi-mature beta of the portal-thing I've been working on, Vertex. Some might remember I made a little thread for it before, and then I got hooked on coding it. Anyway, I'm proud of it, I think that with some...
