Re: Some guidance on how to plan 3.0.13 mod site to 3.2

such as your host updating to PHP7 (3.0.13 will not run on PHP7). Thanks for the ideas. I have a great host and virtual setup so I run both PHP 5 and 7 so I can run the dev site on 7 while 3.0.14 continues to operate on php5. I think I will just start with the development site and begin work on the...

Some guidance on how to plan 3.0.13 mod site to 3.2

I have a modest 3.0.13 site with lots of my own mods that would need me to learn and write extensions when migrating to 3.2. Some of them for reference: - classified ads with modified db so I can track payment and dates and fees. - google maps plotting locations of users. see my google map. - CRON j...

Re: How does mysql interpret tabs?

paul, I attach a shot from notepad++ with the code and all chars visible. There is no space after the '0' and just tabs before WHERE. I don't see why you think there is a space. I also just ran a copy of that code without a space and it worked on a test server as a mysql statement. It works with no ...

Re: How does mysql interpret tabs?

That instruction was sent as an SQL instruction. It was already parsed by PHP and there is no space between the SET and WHERE so it will fail on the SQL instruction as it appears above correct? edit: the above statement works as shown--I tested on a server. I will go further to see where the problem...

How does mysql interpret tabs?

I moved hosts recently. I activated debugging in phpbb 3.0.14 and occasionally receive an error. When I looked at the source of the problem it appeared that there is no space in this code but obviously it is tested phpbb code so how does mysql interpret tabs? does it insert a space before the WHERE ...

Re: [Discuss] Preventing Spam in phpBB3

find a question that any human can answer I understand your point but I don't want "any human". I want people who are familiar with the subject matter or willing to figure it out. I did try the logo thing, colour, third letter etc. I found that once the answer was broken I was flooded. Th...

Re: [Discuss] Preventing Spam in phpBB3

respectfully, I disagree. My results are telling. If you incorporate some of the suggestions by AmigoJack above then bots cannot hammer away indefinitely until they find an answer--they get blocked after [x] attempts. Having more than one question allows my junior members a way to register if they d...

Re: [Discuss] Preventing Spam in phpBB3

It is senseless and unnecessary to have more than one Q&A question. If a question gets cracked, you will not know which one, so you will have to change all of them. One good question is all that is needed. Just following up now that I'm preparing to move from 3.0.14 to 3.1.x My [4-6] questions ...

Re: [Discuss] Preventing Spam in phpBB3

The problem with multiple questions is that if a "spammer" does get in you will not know which question failed. Can't we (collectively) code that as an addition to what AmigoJack is suggesting the code above? I mean: 1) Log repeated attempts that fail. 2) Log attempts that pass. I spot th...

Re: [Discuss] Preventing Spam in phpBB3

AmigoJack many thanks for that code above. I was just going through my logs and see that I am still getting the same pattern of repetitive attempts and they fail the CAPTCHA question(s) but are permitted to continue hammering away without my knowledge. I will test it out today and I think the idea i...

Re: [Discuss] Preventing Spam in phpBB3

It is senseless and unnecessary to have more than one Q&A question. That statement is not correct on my site. My question(s) are specific and intended to be answered by users with specific knowledge of parts and airframes. If I get a user who is interested but not yet intimately familiar they m...

Re: [Discuss] Preventing Spam in phpBB3

I think I'd like to do that. I can modify the files, I have some mods I've done myself and would appreciate the code to log as suggested. I have a cloned testing board I can made the edits on and test the results. Since posting my problem, I have changed the CAPTCHA questions and that has really sto...

Re: [Discuss] Preventing Spam in phpBB3

I have a 3.0.14 board and the Q&A has worked really well for blocking spammer registrations. In the last few days I got hammered with new fake registrations which tells me my questions need to be changed. When I reviewed the last 100 pages of USER LOGs I see that valid registrants and the spamme...

Full width logo--can I have rounded corners?

I created a full width logo as a banner for my website. I simply created the banner, adjusted the imageset.cfg and I removed the site description and site name from the overall_header template and I placed that text in my logo. I am using prosilver_se. My question is: can I make the banner look like...
