Re: Fatal Error

What is wrong with using the server to uncompress the archive? Fact is that with some hosts it just doesn't work properly. And uploading the whole fileset (uncompressed) seems to work properly just about everywhere. And I suspect that it's faster anyway. Also, don't overwrite a whole set of files o...

if you are capable of doing core changes then you should have a note of them and be prepared to reapply those changes.
That, goes without saying !!

Re: max_questions exceeded SQL error on board conversion phpBB2 to phpBB3

As for software requiring that you do a complete database backup to your local environment in order to perform what appears to be an automated migration tool, well, that should _not_ be standard procedure. I didn't say that the software should require (as in to force) me (or you) to do anything lik...

Re: Should autoupdate be made impossible for upgrades?

I'm technical admin on a forum that's needs auto update. The founder has made lots of core changes in templates and PHP. So there is no other way. First of all I doubt that the autoupdate was used for the upgrades, for the updates probably yes. And there is another way: I'm not saying that the auto...

Should autoupdate be made impossible for upgrades?

Considering the number of Support topics after using the autoupdate feature, I'm thinking, or beter still convinced, that autoupdate (and filediff methods) should be disabled for upgrades (not updates). Is there a reason why this method has never been blocked for upgrades? In other words, is there a...

Re: db upgrade question

I didn't use autoupdate until after I got the error and couldn't select the database part of it. In either case still a missing path/subdirectory. It doesn't matter. Now you have to use the full files package and update database (through install.app). (and make sure that the files I mentioned are r...

Re: db upgrade question

So I can just copy the file to the proper subdir? That's not what I said (at all). The error is that you used autoupdate which should only be used for minor version updates (hence "update") . You are going from 3.1 to 3.2 and that's an upgrade. Full package is the way to go. What I said about remov...

oh sorry I see the difference in the code at > https://github.com/phpbb/phpbb/pull/547 ... diff=split

Should I replace this code if it's only a nuisance and wait for the fix in the next version?
Replacing is the safest option and the most member-friendly for your board.

Re: db upgrade question

The picture immediately point to the cause. Make sure you have the correct files for the version you want to upgrade to.It's best to reupload a new set of files (read the documentation). Should you not follow the procedure described, then replace your install directory by a new one (from the downloa...

Re: db upgrade question

Upgraded from 3.1.x It is telling me I need to go to the updater, selected "upgrade db only" but I do not see that as an option. It won't allow me to do anything but click the update button for all from the install folder. ... somemore information is needed. Use the SRT (https://www.phpbb.com/suppo...

You could always do the conversion on your local server and then upload the converted database to your production server
Should be standard procedure, no matter how experienced the board owner is.

excellent description, thanks very much! but i'm still fussy on exactly what the "delete forum cookies" function does, and why anyone (user) would use it?
The first thing that comes to mind is a shared computer.

Re: move old topics and post to new forum

An Update on this one. I had fixed the board manually, then reduced manual actions as much as possible to finally get to the procedure I described in previous posts. The manual fixed board was tested thoroughly and worked. The boards fixed with the simplified system eventually worked, or so I though...

Re: Error upgrading from 3.0.8 to 3.2.4

Can you give a tip to update config_table? Short on time now, but it's relatively simple Just have a look at all the fields in that table, there a six or 7 which are important. It should be possible to write a SQL to extract data fromthose specific fields so that it can be restored easily. I've alw...
