we have several themes (6? 7? something like that). The vast majority of the users stick with the default theme (subSilver in our case) and the next most popular is a "dark", higher-contrast theme. And yes, it's a gigantic pain to maintain more than one or two themes when you start modding.

just wanted to add my thanks, as well, for the tweaks; I've got a few of them running. I'm running innodb on a few selected tables on our system, and it seems to help a lot (though on other tables it seems to cause some interesting errors...like not actually inserting new users into the usertable wh...

is there a way for users to remove somebody from their own ignore list? I looked at the demo, and didn't see it, if it's there. There's an [x] at the very right. If you click it it will remove the name from the list. oh! cool. I see it now, thanks. Might I suggest that you add a label "remove" in t...

wow. I'm glad I didn't install that mod. And I join the chorus of people who think it sucks that they didn't first inform the mod author...this is a very bad trend in security/bug announcements. Having said that, I wish there was a more foolproof way to prevent someone from gaining elevated privs on...

By popular I mean, like is it able to handle 20-30 users online at once? yeah, the software can handle it easily; it's more a matter of whether your hardware & backbone can handle it. Wilwheaton.net runs phpBB2 and usually has 25-40 people online at a time in the afternoons and the board is still v...

Users who's scripts did no more than couple of DB accesses or serve a few pages of information. Now, with the internet more popular than ever before people are installing forums (not just phpBB but vB, iBF, and blog software. some of which may be driving system loads sky-high under certain conditio...

Re: Autologin [PHP + Apache 2 specific - cookies]

There has been quite a lot of people having problems with the autologin function. There is a bug in PHP which makes only the last cookie set. Read more at http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=16626 . The only way to fix this is to recompile PHP with the patch given on that page. only a problem with Apach...

I've had numerous problems (not recently, knock on wood) with the search_words* tables. I've discovered they can be repaired in phpMyAdmin if you have access to it -- even if they're marked as "in use", go to a table where you can get the dialog (sql query) box to show, and enter "repair table phpbb...

Topic: ? Does “requiring registration” on the forum stop posts

I think asking for the small commitment of a simple registration is very little to ask before somebody posts -- but it depends on the nature of your board. If you have trouble with people making up fake addresses at registration & posting trolls, or generally being disruptive to the community, I thi...

thanks. Next time I catch a thread doing it, I'll rip into the database and see if I can figure out what data has gotten whacked. it has been behaving itself recently (I have now jinxed myself), and we haven't recently had any big sql problems...so I'm thinking my cause/effect theory is right. I hop...

I've seen this bug (many times), as well, and it's a major pain. For some reason (sql crashes, maybe?) the counters & pagination get off. The workaround I've been using, and it's a total kludge, is to move the entire thread to a another forum, use the 'moderate' function to 'split posts' -- select a...

I had this same error showing when we had a database corruption problem with the search_wordlist table (which was also throwing other error messages -- if I remember right, the error he listed came up if you posted a message in a new thread, and an insert error for the word_list table showed up if y...
