If you backup before you start, nothing is risky.
That's a lovely theory.

I'd be more concerned about mucking up the database with an update to be honest; the source files are easy enough to copy back and forth, but SQL backups seem to be a bit of a black art. :)

Re: How to notify mods/admins by email for reported posts, post needs approval, etc?

I've re-uploaded includes/ucp (nothing inside was modified at all) but still the same result. Upgrading to 3.2.7 is a bit risky without doing it first on my test server and then lots of testing, so not something to attempt lightly. I'll do it one day though, when I've got some spare time. I've just ...

Re: How to notify mods/admins by email for reported posts, post needs approval, etc?

Tried another style as you suggested, and still the same result. That style does inherit almost all of its content though (it only contains 11 files or so) which means that it will be picking up most stuff from the modified version prosilver, which is the one that does not work for this one page onl...

Re: How to notify mods/admins by email for reported posts, post needs approval, etc?

It is ProSilver, albeit with a few minor code mods to integrate it for my website's colours and layout.

The ucp_notifications.html file in styles/prosilver/template is present and unmodified.

Re: How to notify mods/admins by email for reported posts, post needs approval, etc?

PHP error log doesn't show any errors when I try to bring up that notifications page. In fact, the log is very, very clean - just three items in the last 30 days (thousands from about three months ago, but I know what that was and had fixed it at the time, I'd got an undefined constant issue). This ...

Does it work if you click ‘notifications> settings’ at the top of the page?
That tries to go to the same link as the UCP route, and results in the same white page. No error messages, just a contentless (no HTML content) page.

Re: How to notify mods/admins by email for reported posts, post needs approval, etc?

I actually already tried that, but for some reason there is nothing showing via that link. UCP > Board Preferences > Edit Notification Options just returns a completely blank page (as in plain white, no HTML content sent at all). I assumed it was a non-implemented feature, but the link tries to load...

How to notify mods/admins by email for reported posts, post needs approval, etc?

I've done some searching and found several threads saying that this is now possible in v 3.1.x and above, but I can't figure out how to do it. I get various email notifications from the forum software already, but I can't see how to enable a simple email to indicate that an item (which might need ur...

Re: Migrating from 3.0.14 to 3.2.1, can't update database (updater page not found)

I never did properly resolve this, and now I need to do the whole exercise again to upgrade to phpBB 3.2.3. (My hosting company has again insisted on forcibly upgrading their servers to PHP 7.2.6, which phpBB wasn't fully compatible with until the very latest releases). However I still have the same...

Do you really allow editing? This can only change the public conversation :) You can offend someone and get offended or insulted at any time in the old post. You can delete all posts by typing vh8w4hhf9jf40j9 or whatever. .... But this is not anonymisation, it is an identifier that allows to separa...

Re: New GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and phpBB

Had two GDPR requests, one for access and one for erasure. Denied them both with a link to the US Declaration of Independence. I would love to hear the reaction (if any). That wouldn't work so well for me though, as although my site is hosted in the USA, and only about US subject matter, I happen t...

Re: Mass Email - need to send to all users, but limited to 1,000 per hour

I wouldn't think so. I've been getting email after email of privacy updates all over the place because of this crap. Ironic isn't it, the Eurocrats' snazzy new law aimed at improving privacy and reducing unwanted intrusion has effectively achieved just the opposite so far. It should go away after t...

Re: Mass Email - need to send to all users, but limited to 1,000 per hour

Isn't this "Edit global settings" section in ucp that covers what was mentioned above about mailing "Administrators can email me information: yes/no" ? Yes, but after 25 May GDPR requires that option must be an actively Opted-In facility only, not a pre-ticked box which the user...

Re: Mass Email - need to send to all users, but limited to 1,000 per hour

Exactly, that's why I want to do this before 25 May. It's a one-off email letting users know the updated Policy and Terms, and saying I will be deleting any completely dormant accounts in a month or so unless the user chooses to visit the forums again in the meantime. And it would not be sent to any...
