You need to be careful when editing language files. Make sure there is no white pace at the start of the file (before the <?php). If that doesn't help, make sure you save the files without BOM Use a test editor like pspad ot EditPlus :) Ok I have downloaded PSPad, do I run the 2 files through them ...

No, you can't assume that. And you shouldn't be setting permissions for people - just groups. You would have to give the Guests Group a No Access role to do what you want. Ah ok I think I've got you, thanks. So leave the user permissions on 'NO assigned Roles', Registered User Group on full permiss...

Am I right in thinking that if I disable 'register' the only people who can acess the forums are those already on that I've set permissions for?

Private Hidden

Hello.

I can't see anything that makes sure that the forums are private and hidden or are they totally hidden until permissions are set for a user?

Sorry I'm having trouble understanding all the permission types.
