Re: Re-order Posts Within A Thread?

Thank you! A very useful workaround. I sometimes
do an analogous trick with vBulletin. It's experience
that counts!

Re: Move one post from one forum to another

I successfully moved the posts to the correct topic, but . . . now that there are two new posts in the topic, is there any way to re-order the posts so that the sequence is more logical? EDIT Workaround found here . Oh, while I'm at it, is there any way to copy a post from one topic to another?

Re: Getting Groups and Permissions Right (I can't!)

Snap! LePaul. Although not in the back-end, I do admin on a big vB forum, too. To add to your "not a slap" observation, I have found that the support forums for phpBB seems to have more, ahhh, friendly helpful people than the official vB support forums. All software has it's idiosyncrasies. Same goe...

Re: Getting Groups and Permissions Right (I can't!)

But when I go to: Manage Forums > Edit forums > Forum settings - I find that [Copy permissions from] is set to [Do not copy permissions]. So I change it to (copy its permissions from) its Parent forum (a category) and click [Submit]. No error message, but when I go back to check, it's reverted to [...

Re: Getting Groups and Permissions Right (I can't!)

These permissions things do seem enigmatic, at times! Forum permissions > Select a forum (The forum you select here will include all subforums into the selection) > Public discussion[+Subforums] ( a category) > add the appropriate groups and click [Submit]. . . . But when I go to: Manage Forums > Ed...

Re: Getting Groups and Permissions Right (I can't!)

I hope there is no problem, but I doubt my own abilities. E.g. I went to check the PM system and saw this: http://www.happenstance.info/phpBBs2.jpg That box seems to imply that the PM recipient is a user in both of those groups. PUM: yes; Board: no. Perhaps I've assigned permissions incorrectly, or ...

Re: Getting Groups and Permissions Right (I can't!)

Right. But the problem seems to be when certain users are
in three separate groups, each with separate permissions.

Group A can access Forum 1 - but not 2 or 3

Group B can access Forums 1 & 2 - but not 3

Group C can access Forums 1, 2 & 3.

Re: Getting Groups and Permissions Right (I can't!)

The hierarchy of permissions is that for users in more than one group a Never from any group overrides a Yes which in turn overrides a No. So, the PUM with a Yes will override the RU that has a No for users which are in both groups. I'm sure you guys get wearied with this, but I'm still struggling ...

[split] Getting Groups and Permissions Right (I can't!)

Off the topic a little, but was the matter of the
Youtube BBcode add-in ever resolved? I want to
add that functionality to the forum I'm dealing
with, in this thread.

Re: Getting Groups and Permissions Right (I can't!)

But - based on earlier comments, I don't have to put a user into the RU group, as (I think) they get there by default, don't they? So, interpolating your advice, I add one test user to the PUM group (thereby making that user a member of the PUM and RU group) and don't do that for the other test user...

Re: Getting Groups and Permissions Right (I can't!)

The appropriate group type depends on the particular situation. If you are going to place the PUM into the group when they have paid then Closed is probably best. If you select the Members link for a group on the Manage groups page you can see the existing members and add or remove members. Right. ...

Re: Getting Groups and Permissions Right (I can't!)

Well, it certainly wasn't the next day I got back to this. I adopted your suggestions, but ran into one enigma. Something that the documentation seemed shy about: Group type. The options are X Open X Request X Closed X Hidden Considering that PUMs are going to get into this group, I wondered if [X R...

Re: Getting Groups and Permissions Right (I can't!)

Thanks. I'll give that a try. Tomorrow, when
my head is a little clearer. Creating the new
group as a substitute for NRU & RU makes
good sense. Just something that's been
outside my limited experience, to now.

Re: Getting Groups and Permissions Right (I can't!)

My ignorance is showing, I'm sorry. It's not just permissions. It seems more a hybrid of permissions as they relate to user groups & forums - or rather - categories/forum areas. Guests are easy - look and nothing else: like bots. Then comes registered users. But divided into two groups. And I suspec...

Re: Getting Groups and Permissions Right (I can't!)

Hhmmm - I notice that the [newly registered usergroup] is not
mentioned in the treatise referred to. Why's that?
