4.4.0 is basically 4.3.12. It does contain the updated pear library (security fix), and one of the fixes also made a slight change to the API, hence the change from 4.3 to 4.4 [11-Jul-2005] The PHP Development Team would like to announce the immediate release of PHP 4.4.0. This is a maintenance rele...

Its fairly common practise, especially in corporate circles to not display copyright notices on software used to the outside world (fear of corporation being seen to advertise for product etc) You have to distinguish between different methods of removing/replacing copyright aswell. 1) Remove the cop...

Even a derivative requires original copyrights as I understand it, including a prominent notice saying you modified it and you are not the original author. By placing his copyright in place of ours, he is claiming he wrote it. Not made modifications, not change this or that, the entire thing. The o...

Fair point. :) However, the issue that I see is that the person is not claiming copyright on their modifications, but rather claiming copyright on all of phpBB, which of course is not correct. He is claiming copyright to the derrived work of phpBB. Unless you access the source and find that copyrig...

It could technically be seen as distribution to their customers, but it wont matter if they are distributing an unaltered version of phpBB to their customers as the source for the unaltered version of phpBB is availible from amongst other places, phpbb.com. If they had made modifications, things wou...

If you allow images or other external resources in signatures or external avatars, he would then be able to track the IP addresses of anyone viewing the threads he posts in. Much like i would be able to get your IP from my webservers logs because when you view this thread, you also load my signature...

People seem to forget all too often that phpBB isnt the only possible point of entry to a system. All security issues discovered to date in 2.0.13 are low risk issues which cannot do any harm with the default setup at least. As for 2.0.13 being hacked, to date there have not been a single report tha...

Nobody is perfect, but your ISP is spreading FUD. If they warn against phpBB, they should also warn against php itself (recently had security related releases), vBulletin, AWstats, mambo and so on and so forth. Not to mention they should definately be warning against the use of most operating system...

Im by no means an expert, and you should in any and all cases consider consulting a lawyer if you have any doubts whatsoever. Your situation depends entirely upon how said third party modules integrate with the GPL code. If they are infact modules, or plugins, they do not modify the source of the GP...

so if a firm does the basic of intergration so users can at least post comments on articles on the main page, but dont sell the script to the general public, but does get paid to do the work etc. is ok :? While you can sell phpBB support, or even phpBB itself, you must always make the sourecode freely availible as per the terms of the GNU GPL licence. Depending on just how you incorporate phpBB in your product, you may, or may not be required by the GPL to also release your own product under the GPL,...

Probably somewhat off topic, but as a user and administrator of multiple phpBB forums i have one major concern in all of this. Paui have stated that a code review of 3.0 will happen before 2.0. Personally im having some difficulty understanding the reasoning of this, short of wanting to get 3.0 done...

If the bugs found in 2.0.13 so far had been serious, 2.0.14 would already be out.
I havent checked specifically, but i belive the bugs are impossible to exploit for harmful purpose and/or mere path disclosure issues.

The database you have restored appears to be from after your site was defaced, thus it still contains modifications that the kiddies made to your database. One of them is to change the board setting to locked. The second is to alter the main title or description of the board to include a refresh/red...
