Unfortunately, it's not retroactive. The problem was that the mod message data was being copied to the new post when quoted, so the mod message data is stored in those new posts.

It fixes the issue for any new posts though.

You could use the phpbb hashing function to hash the entered password and check it against the hash stored in the database. That's how phpbb does it, so I'm sure you could do the same with your application.
