Re: Which do you prefer phpbb2 or phpbb3?

the user CP is FAR too complicated for the average user whereas in phpbb2 the user would pick up the ability to use it to an almost instant time frame. To be honest, I still have a horrible horrible time journeying through the current user CP. I would have to say it's probably just a matter of gett...

Re: Which do you prefer phpbb2 or phpbb3?

please do not post that you prefer phpbb3 for it is not a fair vote. Then that's me. I've only ever used phpBB2 a few times before. There are already a few sort-of-similar topics though. Discuss: What does phpBB2's retirement mean for you. phpBB2 vs phpBB3, my point of view... phpbb2 vs phpbb3... A...

Re: Keep me interested in phpbb

Hope you don't mind me saying, but the forum status images make the board look a little too "cluttered", IMO. That's my only criticism of it though. Maybe it just takes a little getting used to. I really like some of the effects that Christian has added though. Absolution is still my favou...

Re: The end of facebook coming?

yeah and I suppose FriendsReunited will come to an end too hey and don't forget mobile phones, they will come to an end too just a matter of time right? Well, for mobile phones, I wouldn't argue that they're completely out, but it seems like the days of SMSing are coming to an end. I mean, most tee...

Re: Spiders & bots to add to phpbb3

Yes, that is perfectly normal. If it is using too much bandwidth, try using the crawl-delay parameter (which is supported by Heritrix - the software that Accelobot uses) or blocking it altogether using robots.txt.

Otherwise, I wouldn't consider it a problem at all. ;)

Re: Keep me interested in phpbb

My problem is that phpbb3 is massivly behind IP3 in just about every way How so? Anything that IPB offers that phpBB doesn't? phpBB doesn't offer a CMS at the moment, but there is an unofficial bridge between phpBB and Wordpress called WP-United . There may eventually be an official Drupal bridge m...

Re: Official phpBB Bridge Discussion

I've created a theme in drupal before, and I imagine it would be very difficult to make phpBB to use the drupal theming system.

It would probably be far easier to design the theme/style to look the same but seperately in phpBB and drupal.

Re: Preventing Spam in phpBB 3.0.6 and Above [*Read First Po

But from what I've seen, the phpBB developers don't often use the code from other MODs - for example, when Quick Reply was implemented they wrote it themselves. I imagine it might be the same case for DNSBLs as well. And you can't pretend that they haven't seen your MOD before, because it sounds lik...

Re: Preventing Spam in phpBB 3.0.6 and Above [*Read First Po

IMO this topic here is not the right place for technical discussions. But here a Arsia (phpBB3.2 ! ) feature request discussion: http://area51.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=105&t=33531 . That's the way how the phpBB community is discussing with me. It's like David against Goliath. And I have ...

No, phpBB won't touch any tables except the tables that it has created.

That is the rules box, which you can add when you Create or Edit a forum. Go into the ACP > Select your forum > Edit buttom > Rules at the bottom. :)

It's at the bottom and it's called Global (near Sticky, None and Announcement). ;)

Re: Preventing Spam in phpBB 3.0.6 and Above [*Read First Po

I personally don't like DNSBLs because there is a mild possibility that they could block a legitimate user. And that is not what I would define as "professional". I don't really see how Q&A CAPTCHAs are not serious or professional. I have seen them at large boards (for example, I saw o...

Re: how many forum posts are a lot?

Well, according to Big-Boards.com, 500,000 is a big board. These days though I'd have to say 1 million is a "big board", at least compared to some boards out there. ;)
