Bercause that is where I found unchangeable "larneman".

The problem was not the browser autofill or any other source but in phpbb Database.

I finally found where the "SMTP username" from Email Settings is stored. That is where the "larneman" is stored. I changed it, emptied the cache, and it remained changed. I can now enter any email address I want. Php_config.jpg With this problem sorted I went back to following th...

you should simply use the php mail that hostgator provides as part of your hosting package. The same reason as about 50 other users that could not get standard "php mail" to work. Just enter "email server problems" into the search at the top of the page and you will get about 10...

I was trying to upgrade but had a "conflict" message. see:- viewtopic.php?f=661&t=2549491

I mistakenly did a new install and can not access my database.

I presume I have to change something in one of the files but do not know which?
