If you haven't got this mod you are being left behind.

Private Messaging Question

Why does a private message sent sometimes stay queued in the sender's outbox for a period of time? Does the recipient have to be logged into the board before they are able to receive it? Thanks!

Re: Help with setting up Jabber Chat for the first time?

Ok... There seems to be some confusion on my end then... This is right out of the installation guide for Jabber setup: 3.2.2.3. Jabber settings MennoniteHobbit phpBB3 also has the ability to allow users to communicate via Jabber. Your board can send instant messages and board notices via Jabber, too...

Help with setting up Jabber Chat for the first time?

Can someone walk me through setting up Jabber Chat? The instructions are quite vague. I know I have to open an account... Do I need a separate server? This is not clear... I am on a Windows XP Professional OS, Apache server, PHPBB3. Thanks!

Re: Dedicated Servers? Security Suites?

Running a server from your home is not something I recommend if you are the least bit concerned about security (which you should be). What happens if there is a theft? Datacenters have alarms, in some cases armed guards, insurance, and so on. Do you? What happens if there is a natural disaster? Dat...

Re: Dedicated Servers? Security Suites?

First off, a hardware firewall, if you have a router it will most likely have one built in. Make sure it is on and configured. Only open the ports absolutely necessary (80 for http). Are you running on a connection with high upload and download speeds? Upload will be necessary and I would also chec...

Dedicated Servers? Security Suites?

I am just interested in the opinions of the more experienced PHPBB3 hosts, as far as having a dedicated server for this program, and what security suite works the best for protecting against hackers? I have a server program that I am thinking about running on a seperate hard drive, but is part of my...
