Unrestricted username a security issue?

My board serves a demographic that can't understand why computers have to be so complicated (if you get my drift). It's not a large constituency, but I like to keep 'em happy if I can ... now I have one complaining because he's not completely free to choose his username. I have restricted user names...

Re: Automatic Logout!

link to my board is http://more.sandiegoflyfishers.com/forums/

I will try to check IE version. Person I am helping is remote and I am unfamiliar enough with windows8 these days that I don't know how to coach him to get IE version.

[split from] Automatic Logout!

I just discovered this thread when trying to find out why (just) one of my board's 100+ users was having this problem. I suspected cookie problems, but using phpBB's cookie clearing link didn't help. In this one user's case, he was only auto-logged off shortly after successful login when accessing t...

Incorrect resolution of PHPBB_ROOT_PATH

The URL of my bboard is http://more.sandiegoflyfishers.com/forums/. Entering this URL into one's browser takes me to my club's phpBB bboard. In certain email notices (notice to new registrant, for example), phpBB gives the following hotlink to my bboard: http://more.sandiegoflyfishers.com/forums Not...

Re: Is there a way to limit email attempts

Yes - I understand what you are saying. I'm pretty sure my phpBB uses phpmail option. But something in the internal structure of phpBB was causing it to periodically attempt to send a post notification to an email address that was bad ... an address that had actually been replaced in the database by...

Re: Is there a way to limit email attempts

I must be thinking about some utility I've used in the past, though I don't remember what it could be. Clearly, phpBB has some mechanism that will cause it to keep trying to send a notification that bounces. (BTW your cache clearing recommendation appears to have worked, thanks). Each time those bad...

Is there a way to limit email attempts

I vaguely recall being able to set a limit on the number of times the board emailer would attempt to resend a bounced message to a particular user, but I cannot find this option anywhere in the Administration Control Panel. Am I wrong about being able to do this? If not, how is it done? I've done so...

Re: How do I stop recurring email to bad addr

Thanks Oyabun1 -

I have done what you suggested. Will have to wait a day or so to see if I DON'T get any more bounces from the MAILSYSTEM.

Hope it's this easy fix.

How do I stop recurring email to bad addr

One of the members of the board I admin got bounced on a message notification because his email address no longer was valid. I used my administrative powers to set his email address to a known good address, and that apparently works. However, some mailing server (I think the one embedded in my php i...

How to access board from a subdomain

Currently, my board is located here: sandiegoflyfishers.com/forums In the near future, my domain name will no longer point to the host where my website (and therefore my board) is currently hosted. However I have a subdomain, more.sandiegoflyfishers.com, that will continue to point to my current web...

Re: Success of attachment download not obvious

Thanks Lumpy - just figured that out by following Oyabun1's ref. Consider this inquiry closed - I actually had looked at the general options tab before even starting this thread but I guess I couldn't see the forest for the trees. Scuze me while I wipe this egg off my face. Only thing I'd add: for m...

OK. Kinda thought that might be the case. Thanks for the reference. I'll pursue it from that angle.

Re: Success of attachment download not obvious

Are you saying the closing of the dialog must be done manually ? ... because that's not what happens for me (Firefox 3+) or my user (Firefox 18.0). I don't see any 'download complete at the lower right of the phpbb window. If it's in the self dismissing download window, it doesn't help much.
