Re: 3.0.9 to 3.0.10 Memberlist.php 404 Error

Did you get this resolved? When I just tried in from the link to your memberlist it worked as expected. Sheesh, forgot to refresh all! I had to do a couple manual changes after the automatic update. Usually at the end of the update routine, we are reminded to do the refresh, but I probably missed i...

3.0.9 to 3.0.10 Memberlist.php 404 Error

I use 2 different phpbb forums. One I have updated from 3.0.9 to 3.0.10, the other is still on 3.0.9. The one that I updated has a problem with the memberlist.php display. If you go to the first page of the converted forum, for the memberlist page: http://www.rare-cancer.org/forum/memberlist.php Cli...

Re: Spiders & bots to add to phpBB

My original goal was to stop the 'scrapers'. Those bots that actually republish your copyrighted website in a 'summarized' vision under the guise of being a 'directory'. So, I had to move back to htaccess since the bot manager does not give me any bandwidth advantage. Thank You so much for all your ...

Re: Spiders & bots to add to phpBB

If you want to target specific bots (like bad bots), but not all of them, I would try creating a Bad Bots group, adding the bad bots' user names to that group and adjusting the group's permissions. Steve, If I have the 'bad bots' deactivated in my ACP, will they be able to see any of my forums? (Mo...

Re: Spiders & bots to add to phpBB

Sorry, there were several involved. All of them were scrapers, using summarized content from the pages, like the DMOZ directory. Funnelback (which was hammering). After they left, FirstLifeResearch (FLR -for their Treato.com website) popped up, and after that, another one (that was in Israel). Right...

Re: Spiders & bots to add to phpBB

I am a little confused because phpBB Bots Manager says “Bots”, “spiders” or “crawlers” are automated agents most commonly used by search engines to update their databases. Since they rarely make proper use of sessions they can distort visitor counts, increase load and sometimes fail to index sites c...

Re: Spiders & bots to add to phpBB

Just a question, why would a bad bot keep you from adding it to this routine? If you have the bad bot on the list, then you can deactivate it and stop it from accessing your forum, other than a 'not allowed' page. Or am I misunderstanding the ACP - Manage Bots routine?

Re: Spiders & bots to add to phpBB

I got hammered last week by 'Funnelback'. They are 'scrapers' looking to 'own' a summary version of medically-oriented website content, disregarding copyright laws. They overloaded my bandwidth and took my website down. Agent: Funnelback IP: 213.129.83.150 Country: Israel Target Websites: Med...

Re: Setting so new users posts need admin approval

I've created a custom profile field that asks new users to send me a validation during registration. I have asked for something that is meaningful on my forums. And, I have the forums setup so that no one can post until I okay them. That has helped me immensely, over the many years I have used phpBB.

Re: phpBB Email - Debunking 'Advice'

I am not here to place blame on anyone. I am here to explain to the person who PM'd me today (and posted here with questions), and others, the 'workarounds' that I have done to get my emails out and to their targets.

Re: phpBB Email - Debunking 'Advice'

Let me go back to my original response of today (requested by another user). I never did get the mass email torquing to work. That is when I begged my hosting company to up my email limit per hour. What I have to do, to get emails out, is make sure that I send out no more than 200 member emails in o...

Re: phpBB Email - Debunking 'Advice'

My shared hosting company upped my email limitations and that part is working just fine. They get a welcome email, after they register, that is very important. When I talk to my users, online, I tell them to look at their spam/bulk folders and sure enough, there it is. But, if I didn't tell them to ...
