Re: Air France Jet Missing!

Do they have the co-ordinates of the place the place crashed on the surface then? You have bits of information; the last known signal, the last known heading and speed, the known location of found derbies and the approximate wind conditions for the days between the aircraft going missing and the de...

That would only make sense if you could get a GPS lock. If you're ~3,000m underwater, you're not going to get any kind of GPS signal.

Re: Air France Jet Missing!

Final Update: It appears that the search for the data recorders is over, since their battery may be dead already. But there word that the French will spend 20 million dollars to find the data recorder by next year. The only thing that the Brazilian and French Navy has found been able to find has bee...

Re: Apple's "dark secret"

They seem to concentrate on making things pretty instead of functional and safe. Ditto... I can't imagine why it would take so long to fix such issues... even if it takes a long time to go through QA, the Guest account bug seems serious enough that we should have seen a fix by now. So now we...

Re: phpBB Meet the Team #1

Are you guys really robots or not? You were on the team, you know we are. Resistance is futile. Some of you guys regularly mention that you also have a real life. Now, that makes me conclude that phpBB is not part of your real life, but what is it then? Is it just virtual? Does this mean, developin...

Re: Phpbb3 - does it allow multiple datatabases as one

There are two distinct ways I'd consider doing this. The first is PHP-side; by modifying the DBAL to detect if you're doing a read or a write, and send the query to the correct server (assuming you're aiming for a master write, slave read style setup). If you go for this modification, you'll want to...

Re: Revision 9782 remove password from email templates

Sorry, but how is the password sent by the package via 'I forgot my password' any less *real* than one you create? Does it not grant you access to your account the same way? Does it not get sent via the same email transport that is so vulnerable as to require removal of the password in the first pl...

Re: Revision 9782 remove password from email templates

Damned if we do, damned if we don't. There's two ways to look at this. This change has been done because the developers decided that the arguments to remove the password in the email are better than the arguments to keep it there. If you do not like this change, you do not have to apply it. It's as ...

Anyone who has tried to give a proper answer to that has suddenly resigned the team to deal with their lives.. ;)

Back 500 years ago America was barley mapped; yet alone puritans burning witches. The Salem witch trials were between 317 and 316 years ago. You might want to adjust your calendar, for this is 2009 not 2192 ;)

Re: Replace ip with forwarded_for in session.php

You'll need to modify your modification to read from $_SERVER['X_FORWARDED_FOR'] though, as REMOTE_ADDR isn't the IP address you're looking for. (In this case)

Re: Replace ip with forwarded_for in session.php

I would consider modding phpBB to allow you to dump a typical X_FORWARDED_FOR header, so you can see which part is the server IP and which part is the users' IP. Once you've obtained this, I would modify phpBB's IP logging to log this part of the header, with a note to yourself that X_FORWARDED_FORs...

Well, only a minority are using alternatives. Many people are still too ignorant. I'll tell you exactly why I don't use Linux for my day-to-day activities: Lightwave (Blender is not a replacement for what I do) Photoshop (The Gimp is not a replacement for what I do) Steam Windows games programming ...

NINE years old??? I didn't even think Al Gore had invented the interwebs yet!! It's a bit scarier than that. It's still a phpBB2 install that was converted from Ikonboard in 2000; the Ikonboard was running from about the beginning of 1999.. ;) My next mission is to convert it to 3.0, but it's...
