Been supporting phpbb since 1.4 but never got to thank you. Here's my story: I was involved in a project that includes a link list, picture voting booth, and a forum. I grabbed some opensource programs and phpbb, then off I went building the site. 8 months later almost all of the other opensource pg...

Since I do run multiple servers with one database, I have a good grasp on your situation. Now first of all, please take note of the following: - If you want to share the same user database, you also need to share the following database tables: (assuming you are running with phpbb_ as the table prefi...

I think I got away lucky because I had been running PHPA and I changed to MMCache the same day I decided to turn Gzip on. I never checked if mmcache does gzip wrapping. Well right now things are running great so I tend to go with the "if it's not broken, don't fix it" mentality. :o

Oh no! The highest concurrent user should be less than 750. It jumped to 1400 when the database get clogged. I'll need to reset the count again... Managing this puppy is really tough. Took too much of my development time away already.

Is it okay to re-post? http://www.go-gaia.com 33,000 members, 1.8M posts Since 45 days ago we've grown from 18,000 to 33,000 members now. Message count went past 2M earlier this week so I'm now pruning messages and I've disabled adding search word for now. Need to install a cron job to run at...

Say yes to gzip

To me, gzip is a god sent. Running a board with 1TB worth of bandwidth in a month, I only found out recently that gzip can cut my bandwidth cost by 40%. http://www.go-gaia.com/announcements/swstats_030723.png Just for fun I disabled gzip compression for half an hour yesterday, and the spike you see ...

The "most users online" mystery

Hello all phpbb users and guru: Having used phpbb for over a year, I've always come across the question of how come the system always report my "most users ever online" stat with a value that is about 75% more than the active on-line users during peak hours? I understand that there can be bursts in ...

While we're on the subject, have anyone encountered issues where logging out does not work for users who have auto-login enabled? (meaning the cookie info couldn't get erased) If it's a common problem, perhaps a solution should be mentioned in the help too.

Is session ID matching needed in 2.0.4?

Just a simple question for all the phpbb experts out there: Can someone explain to me why there is a need for the session ID to match when posting messages? I'm assuming it's a security feature, though against what type of malicious act? I'm planning to disable the feature because I'm getting too ma...

A good thing and a bad thing...

We've started a site named Gaia Online, community with customizable character based avatars mainly for teens and young adults. We currently have about 12000 users and 822,000 posts after 4 months of service. The good news is that our site is getting popular, we have 170 new users yesterday... The ba...

I have no idea what would be considered as large or small sized forums, but last Saturday I had 186 users on-line, on weekdays I have about 150 during the afternoons and I'm having slowdowns at around 150+ users on a cheap'o 1.3G Celeron with 1G of RAM dedicated to running the forum. I believe with ...

Standard Avatars for phpBB 2

Playing around with phpbb2, I remembered that back in version 1.4 there weren't any avatar support, so I'm wondering if version 2 will be distributed with avatars? If not, maybe some of us as artists can contribute to a few good quality avatars for phpbb2? What I can do on my part would be stuff fro...
