Re: [Discuss] Preventing Spam in phpBB3

Wow...all these pages on since page 26 of this topic when I implemented an mp3 file with a question for registration. And I still haven't had a single spammer lol. :D That would certainly help with bots but not humans unless they can't understand the mp3 either.;) Of course, but no one, anywhere in...

[split] [Discuss] Preventing Spam in phpBB3

Has anyone tried out some sort of "javascript required" registration system to see how effective it is against bots? How it would work would be simple. Include a field that is labeled as something on the registration page (Location, for example), but, hide it using css (display: none) and have a ran...

Re: Can post Links Permission

Something similar was already suggested in Area51... Link? I asked over there and was given a link to a discussion that never really got anywhere since the whole thing was ambiguous. It would be nice if someone could specifically ask for two permissions: can post links, and "can post links without ...

Re: Can post Links Permission

This sounds like one way to tackle the problem. I think I've seen a feature like this on forums I've signed up to. I found it a bit disruptive. I saw a few non-spammers who were actually bumping their post counts, so that they stopped being blocked from posting links. The same problem happens with ...

Can post Links Permission

Most spammers are looking to gain SEO attention and get links posted, they typically do not post random text. It would be nice to have a new permission added "Can post external links", so that users can set this to never on the newly registered users group, as an example. If one wanted to take it ev...

Re: phpbb default style re-design

3.1's prosilver theme is greatly improved, I don't think it's necessary to rebuild everything from scratch, I quite like prosilver, and it can continue to be improved.

There's the verdict then ;)

Host installers never work right haha.

Re: User posts are showing as a guest with Dec 31, 1969 date

Could there be some way that some session data is being lost is the html post action? dec 31 1969 means -1 in epoch times, I'm wondering if that is effectively a null value. It sounds as if you have a modification messing something up, is Mchat the only mod? Even if they "lost" their session and we...

Re: User posts are showing as a guest with Dec 31, 1969 date

I do know who the user is, and trust that he's not being malicious. The only guess that I have is that I changed the cookie settings in phpbb from promodzgaming.com to forums.promodzgaming.com after reading docs and seeing that it should be either .example.com or forums.example.com But I asked him ...

Re: ff error

I do not understand the question you're asking, and when I look at your screenshots the only differences I see is the little button on the page in the top right corner. Is this a question about the theme you are using? If so, it may not be relevent to phpBB support, you may need to ask the theme dev...

Re: Manually add comment with bbcodes to database

I'm working on a forum locally right now and had to do some manual stuff to the database and repase a little bit of BBCode in posts. Grab this: https://www.phpbb.com/support/stk/ Support Toolkit, and upload the STK directory to your forums root directory, there is an option in there to reparse BBCod...

Re: User posts are showing as a guest with Dec 31, 1969 date

Do you know what the user is, are the intentionally posting content like this or is it just something that randomly happens to them. I'm assuming other posts have correct date? Reason I ask is this sounds weird and doesn't sound like a configuration error with phpBB per se, as even if you had permis...

Re: Google Drive MP3 Player BBCodes

Dear user, I'm not a programmer :P, I only do a little HTML/CSS/PHP. Anyway, I'm trying to understand what you're asking for. Are you looking for an ability to embed MP3 files in forum posts where the files are hosted on Google drive? If that is what you're asking for that shouldn't be so hard, you ...

Re: Wizard for new phpBB installation

Wizards are overrated. Instead there should be "typical" permissions already set and ready to go when a forum is created, it need not be too complicated.
