Re: phpBB modification

I don’t think his question was to ask if these mods are available, I think his question was to ask if mods are as easy to install in phpBB as he feels they are with SMF software.

Re: When to move from a shared server to VPS or dedicated se

I don’t agree with the other members on this, I think people should be more proactive instead of being reactive. I have always felt the time to do something is before there is a serious problem. For example, you have 140,000 miles on your car and the serpentine belt has never been replaced. OK, ther...

Re: Windows 8.1 - Will you be upgrading?

I have 4 computers set up on a home network. One of the computers has Windows-7 on it, one has Linux Mint, and the other two have Windows XP. I prefer Linux Mint to ANY Windows operating system, with the exception of maybe Windows 2000. In my opinion Windows 2000 was a really good operating system a...

Re: The hardest question of all... how do you get new users?

Gee Lumpy, if you agree with me then I must be wrong. :D Only kidding. I took his post to mean that to get members you need to cater to whatever the users want to do, and I think that is wrong. Really good content is what a forum needs to attract members and keep them. For example, if you have a for...

Re: The hardest question of all... how do you get new users?

When we all want a new users, we must make our site for users, not for us! They must feel at our site like in home! :D I disagree completely with that concept. Now obviously, since this is a forum to discuss forum software, this presupposes the website I create would be a forum. If I spend my time ...

Re: Why contacting members via PM for help is bad

If someone were to PM me and ask for my help, if I were able to help them, I would do so. I am not all that knowledgeable about phpBB so it is doubtful I could be of much help. But my phpBB knowledge isn't really the issue. The issue is, is it bad for someone to contact another member thru PM and as...

Re: 80% of children lie about their age to use sites like Fb

I wasn't aware that email addresses were considered personal information. If that is the way it is then OK, but it just seems weird because people pick up an email address thru Hotmail or Yahoo or any one of a number of different places, and real names are seldom, if ever, used when setting up an em...

Re: 80% of children lie about their age to use sites like Fb

Coppa has to do with children giving personal information to the operator(s) of a web site and what the web site operator(s) can and can't do with that personal information. What personal information is the child giving to the operator(s) of a phpBB forum?

Re: 80% of children lie about their age to use sites like Fb

how do you know if they are actually older than 13? unless you know them personally there is no possible way to know if they lied about their age when they signed up. robert I doubt very many people care how old these kids are anyway, but I don't think that is what the opening poster was getting at...

Re: ONE login attempt?

That's most likely caused due to two previous bad attempts in 2011, the last time you posted(so I assume the last time you were here). Bad attempts are only erased once you've successfully logged in. That's interesting, I thought they were erased after a certain amount of time had elapsed. But that...

Re: any way to block registerations from using Yahoo or Gmai

If he does this and nobody can use a @gmail.com, or a @yahool.com, etc, what happens to all the people who have already registered who used one of those as their email address? Do they still remain registered? Also, that means potential members who just happen to have one of those email address's as...

OK fine, have it your way, it doesn't matter if the software does what you need it to do or not, as long as it is free it is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
