I'm not sure this will fix all of your issues, as you are upgrading from a very old version. However, I'm betting you didn't run the update_to_latest.php file?

Looks like you may have forgotten to replace your lang_main.php. Also..double check to make sure the images are where they're supposed to be...

Open your FTP program and right click your images/avatars folder. You should see an option for "properties" or "CHMOD". Make sure it's set at 777 (check all squares).

Yes, you will need to replace the smiles you originally had. Also, CHMOD your images/avatars folder to 777. Remember, all the images you had installed were contained in the original forum. You will not need access to the database to do what I described above...just your forum files. Just for giggles, what version is it?

Assuming you have a recent version, you can go here and upload the contained install folder to your forum's root. You would point to it like so (changing to your site and forum name): http://yoursite.com/phpbb2/install/update_to_latest.php when completed, delete this folder. This should take care of...
