[split from] Modifying my Forum

A couple of follow-on questions. In ACP > STYLES, Templates and Themes, administrators have the Option of "Storing templates in:" and "Store stylesheet in:" either Filesystem or database. http://www.phpbb.com/support/documentation/3.0/adminguide/acp_styles.php#acp_styles_manage covers the details bu...

Re: [Request] Printing PM history

Count me in wanting this also. I've done some research and in phpBB 3.0.9, when viewing a PM, the message history is already available and displayed below the current PM. The Message History can be Expanded/Collapsed. There is already a Print button, but it only prints the PM, why can't it have the ...

Re: How can I add a ne html page like for ex "About Us"

Thanks Robert. The KB article makes no reference to prosilver BTW.

In our case, I'd hacked a subsilver2 version by copying coding from other templates to replace the <class="> tags. You have addressed many of the issues that I was having in selecting appropriate ones.

Re: How can I add a ne html page like for ex "About Us"

It works fine. It's not really dependent on version. Kevin, we've found the example code is dependent on Style. We're in the process of doing the same thing. One of the problems that we've run into is the coding template page assumes prosilver style. Try the sample code in subsilver2 style and you ...

Re: Too common words - Search problem

Found the answer, [#PHPBB3-8175] Common words are sticky - phpBB Tracker marked as "Won't Fix" :(. Unfortunately for a board with a significant number of posts, running on a shared server, re-creating the index is time and resource consuming. Took more than a day the last time.

Re: Too common words - Search problem

My users have been reporting problems with search, get "The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words:" for words that don't seem too common. So I've done some investigation. Due to a hosting issue, we recently had to restore our database and re-create the i...

Re: Discuss: phpBB 3.0.9 released

Where can an admin find information on how to use this new feature and it settings? Under ACP > GENERAL tab > Security settings: Maximum number of login attempts per IP address: The threshold of login attempts allowed from a single IP address before an anti-spambot task is triggered. Enter 0 to pre...

Re: Discuss: phpBB 3.0.9 released

Updated one of our sites last night and it went very smoothly. Thanks to all involved. Hope this is the right place to ask, but I have one follow-up on a new feature per the changelog: http://www.phpbb.com/support/documents.php?mode=changelog&version=3#v308. One New Feature of interest to boards tha...

Re: Login gives captcha on first attempt

Our site had another drive-by attempt over the past couple of days. Since we use the logging modification that nfs posted up-thread, we were able to detect source of the attack. The logs show a sustained attack, all coming through Tor servers. It began about 24 hours ago, is directed at attempting t...

Re: Am I missing something with DST?

But there is no way of knowing whether the board's switch would be applicable to any particular user. Agreed. The intention is to allow each user setting to accept (or decline) the board's "Enable Summer Time/DST" setting. If the user knows the board's "Enable Summer/DST" date matches their own, th...

Re: Am I missing something with DST?

Agreed that on the surface the problem seems easy, but once you dig into the details, it becomes much more difficult.

One suggestion that I've seen: "A really good design would be to have a setting in the User Control Panel which allows toggling of a "Use the board's DST setting" switch."

Re: Users being forced to login through CAPTCHA!

Maybe they've stopped attempting on your board? That's possible and hopefully never again. We've also changed to Q&A CAPTCHA and we'll keep our monitoring in place. I did find this [#PHPBB3-9992] Limit amount of failed login attempts per IP - phpBB Tracker that appears to be planned for 3.0.9. I wo...

Re: Users being forced to login through CAPTCHA!

This is still working this morning. No logged attempts! I'd like to know if anyone else has the weird prefixed domain (mmm) in their logs. Otherwise, I guess the above solution wouldn't work. Just checked our February logs and there are no instances of mmm.<domain name> in our log. I also checked t...

Re: Users being forced to login through CAPTCHA!

Are your users passwords actually being cracked, or is it just causing users to see the "You exceeded the maximum login" message? If it is the latter then there are a couple of other threads discussing this issue: phpBB • View topic - Login gives captcha on first attempt and phpBB • View topic - Use...
