Re: Attached Images Resizer, Converter & File Size Reducer

Very strange, we just recently attended a Google AdWords seminar and we were told site speed / page loading time is an important factor for determining the importance of a site, which goes into relevance and ranking. But they also told us that it's a total split view between search engine and AdWord...

Re: Attached Images Resizer, Converter & File Size Reducer

Why dont you want to outsource the resource to the client? As said, because of storage space and page loading times. People tend to upload images directly from their cameras or mobile phones with multiple megapixel and several MB in size. We have a lot of pics in our forum and without server side r...

Re: Attached Images Resizer, Converter & File Size Reducer

Great for sure, unfortunately with ReIMG it's all done on the client side, not on the server. In the end I'll use what's available, so that's great news the ReIMG is becoming an extension, but maybe someone else is interested in my described server side approach?

Re: [DEV] ReIMG Image Resizer

Great for sure, it's always been a PITA with user uploaded imaged. Though as I've understood that's all done on the client side, not on the server. I was hoping to find an extension that does resize / reformat uploaded pics on the server to reduce required storage space and page load times (we have ...

Attached Images Resizer, Converter & File Size Reducer

This is not about just resizing displayed images as discussed in the ReIMG Image Resizer thread, but an extension that hooks itself to the attachment function and post-processes files if they are images. The idea is to optimize forum performance by taking care of image type and file size. People ten...

Re: Vanilla 2 to phpBB converter?

The SMF converter is definitely not working for Vanilla 2.1.x in its present state, because it was written for Vanilla 1 and has been updated to Vanilla 2.0.x which is not 100% compatible with Vanilla 2.1.x. I was able to make some changes to the converter script to make it run through the conversio...

Re: Migration from Vanilla Forums v2.1.x to phpBB 3.1.x?

With the CalebTheWizard converter totally messing up and me not having the proper knowledge to tinker with it, I guess my best bet is trying to convert using the Vanilla -> SMF -> phpBB route. Right now I'm stuck with the SMF converter, because it was written for Vanilla 1 and has been updated to Va...

Re: Vanilla 2 to phpBB converter?

Thanks for your support! Finally I managed to import my forum using the smf converter and everything went smoot :geek: Carla83, which converter did you use to go from Vanilla v2.1.x to SMF, and which one from SMF to phpBB? My first try going from Vanilla v2.1.x to SMF using the converter from their...

Re: Migration from Vanilla Forums v2.1.x to phpBB 3.1.x?

Dang, it just doesn't work. Robert, I tried the CalebTheWizard converter two times now, from Vanilla v2.1.x to phpBB v3.0.12 and directly to v3.1.1 with some modifications to the script, but there are errors/incompatibilities preventing a usable conversion. I have posted my findings in the Vanilla 2...

Re: Vanilla 2 to phpBB converter?

I had high hopes, but it doesn't work. I tried to go from Vanilla v2.1.x to phpBB v.3.0.12, as well as directly to phpBB v3.1.1 (with some modifications to the converter script), but the result is all messed up. During the run of the script something with script execution seems to always time out, c...

Agreed, great idea, a general custom header and/or footer code extension would make most sense.

Hah, who knew my comment could be interpreted that wrong. With Where's the "Thanks" Button here? I meant here in this board to thank you, KevC, for the provided info without having to say it verbally. :D

Re: "Like" or "Thank" Button as Reaction and for rating Postings

Where's the "Thanks" button here? ;)

For the record, I really tried to search for it first, but I didn't know exactly what to look for and of course searching for "like" and "thank" doesn't lead to any useful results.

"Like" or "Thank" Button as Reaction and for rating Postings

I'm not quite sure how such functionality is called, for Vanilla Forums there is an extension called Yet Another Gamification Application that features configurable reaction buttons for rating comments. In the end just a "Like" or "Thank" button for posting would to, it should prevent countless foll...

Re: Migration from Vanilla Forums v2.1.x to phpBB 3.1.x?

Well, the SMF route seems to be a dead end. The SMF >> Vanilla converter from the SMF website is from 2010/2011 and does not even recognize the path to the Vanilla (v2.1.x) installation because of wrong config-filename(s) in vanilla_to_smf.sql. I've tried with corrected path to conf/config.php but t...
