Writing php code within template

I have created a custom template starting from an existing and made it php file so as to be able to execute php code within that file...but the php code that I have placed within that file isn't executed...please advise

I have done copy-paste of the uncompressed files although I get the message "Your phpBB installation is not up to date" on the admin->control panel->system and below is written "Incomplete update detected"...please advise

because to the live board I have chosen the FTP update and everything worked perfect...instead, to the localhost board I cannot use FTP and thus I wasn't sure about the alternate process...

by saying "transfer", do you mean that I have to do copy-paste of the uncompressed package to the root of my board installation so that the old files will be overwritten??

What's the recommended method? There is the choice to download the files but I really don't know what to do then...I have already done update to the live website using FTP method with acceptable results

Could you please let me know what to specify on the form that asks for FTP connect information
FTP host, FTP username, FTP password, path to phpBB, FTP port, FTP timeout ?? Do I need to set up an FTP account on easyphp and how to do that?
