Re: User Vs ...

will that have any effect on the word user when used in a post? robert Nope. It only effects the word user found in the language files. It won't change user in posts or anywhere else in the code. Plus as I have stated it isn't just user but in any part of a word user appears like username, users, u...

Re: User Vs ...

This post contains updated code! I have found the general language call to update all pages. This means it only requires one file edit to alter all the visitors files. As always backup your original file and be ready to restore it. I highly recommend trying this edit on a test board install. Read th...

Re: Absolutely lost

It is pretty easy to do basic table repair with modern control panels. If you aren't sure there are Youtube videos out there that show you visually what to do. Unfortunately most MySQL programs default to MyISAM which can't repair itself unlike the InnoDB or TokuDB engines.

Re: Do you run a server(s) on your LAN?

I see. I agree with not recording much as I am the same the way. I have TV service with a DVR but it is rarely used as I personally stream almost all content via Netflix, Hulu, and Youtube. In fact I finally convinced my family to give up the reliance on TV service so we can disconnect it. So after ...

Re: Do you run a server(s) on your LAN?

 Wow, that is very cool Robert :!: :!:

An interesting idea to turn old objects into computers.

Are you running Windows Media Center for your movies?

Do you run a server(s) on your LAN?

Do you run your own in house server(s)? If so what OS are you using and for what functions? Ex: Windows, CentOS, Arch for Media Serving Perhaps you use one of those cloud "server" hard drive boxes from companies like Western Digital, Seagate, etc. ============ Personally I am using a single Sun Micr...

Re: Windows or Linux for web hosting?

Well I do like iRedmail for *nix boxes as that presets everything up and makes it easy. I really have come to dislike setting up mail servers. Apache, MySQL (or better Percona as a drop in replacement), PHP, etc no problem but mail is such a hassle. It is like encrypting email. We need better techno...

Re: Speedtest

That is very good for broadband in the US. Of course now Google and AT&T are beginning to offer 1 Gbps; really thanks to Google doing it. AT&T Uverse has only been available in about 25% of their area which is crazy. AT&T is so slow to roll out new technology. At my home I use AT&T Uverse (with a st...

Re: Cool or not, go to other boards and

One method is a joint venture/cross promote. This probably won't work well if your board directly competes with your potential partner. For example your board is about dogs and you go to other dog boards. However if you have a board about cats and go to dog forums there can be some bleed over as man...

Re: User Vs ...

You do know that 'member' can have another meaning too don't you? All members are users but not all users are members. What about guests? They are using the board but they're not members. Well any word can just about have multiple meanings. ;-) However member is pretty common. When you join a gym y...

Re: New Wireless Router

This is an older thread and I am not sure if you have already found a solution but I would suggest either an Asus or Buffalo router. The ones in the $70 to $120 range usually have some good signal power although the $150 tri antennas have more. You do have other options which include using a repeate...

Re: User Vs ...

Well I like coding and code all kinds of things. I have written hundreds of small scripts, plugins for projects like Wordpress, huge multi-user database driven systems, even full custom content management systems. So I thought what the heck I can invest 30 minutes or so just for fun. I admit I didn'...

Re: User Vs ...

You do raise a valid point as phpBB doesn't run everything through the main index.php like Wordpress, for example, but it should work in all the main files. For example search.php that code would go below: // Start session management $user->session_begin(); $auth->acl($user->data); $user->setup('sea...

This code is only replacing user on the visitor/user side of the board and not in the admin panel. Please read the whole pos...

Re: Windows or Linux for web hosting?

I agree Windows support has gotten a lot better. The main issue has really been PHP support for Windows and as that has developed over the years most functions work without issue. However the fact remains most open source projects, for website use, are developed and tested heavily in Linux environme...
