Re: Quote with link to quoted post

i don't understand the part of your comment regarding "path or domain" http://domain.net/path/board/index.php must never change in your solution (although in the end it's rather easy to update all posts and PMs once the board moves). this has nothing to do with "my" hack. people are using links all...

Re: Quote with link to quoted post

kind of amusing See previous posts: your hardcoded text does neither honor each user's date format settings, nor their chosen language. And changing the path or domain. that is correct. however, my little hack is extremely simple, and hardly touches any core code. i was not really advocating using ...

Re: Quote with link to quoted post

what a deja-vu... i created a mod in phpbb 2.0.x to do just that. https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=368370 the mod was very simple: instead of having the forum software understand more sophisticated quote header, i tweaked the "Quote" button to squirt out something like [quote="[u...

Danielx64 wrote: I know that this may be out of context, but how come the phpBB 2.0 mods have been removed/hidden? Was that done because of all the security drama that you had in the past?
i believe the 2.0 mods still exist in this forum, under the read-only section "phpBB2 Forum Archive".

Re: Discuss: phpBB 3.1.0-RC1 released

could you please provide information on what kind of support should people who install this version expect? will there be an upgrade path from RCx to final version? will RCx forums receive similar support to what 3.0 users get? what do you think of people using RCx with live forums? thanks a bunch, ...

Re: Copyright removal

Also, support team members are free to not support boards with no copyright, if they do not wish to. this statement sent me in a loop. it was my understanding that "support team members" are volunteers, and they do not need any excuse (such as "no copyright message") if they do not wish to support ...

Re: Do Mods create Security Issues

i don't want to be splitting hair here. this thread was started thus: Do mods sometimes create security issues? and the reply came: Potentially yes, but if you stick to mods off phpbb.com, you should be fine.~Callum i aboslutely 100% agree with anyone who said that approved mods are a better bet tha...

Re: Do Mods create Security Issues

So everything written by professionals is perfectly secure? absolutely not, and i actually said so (or at least i thought i said so) in the post that started this mini-flame-war. You are using the term "professional" as though it is well defined, but I have no idea what you're referring to. Someone...

Re: Do Mods create Security Issues

i regret that you guys took my words as personal attack. the fact is that this open source project was started by a non-professional (theFinn), and continued for several years being lead very successfully by a non-professional (psoTFX, aka Paul). this facts do not detract from this project - for man...

this is true. however, laws are pretty reluctant to override reasonable "contracts", and the "term of use" used by most forums *are* reasonable, so with very high probability the "terms of use" *do* hold.

Re: Do Mods create Security Issues

Do mods sometimes create security issues? absolutely. as DC above points out, the fact that the mod is "approved" means very little. the people who "approved" it are not necessarily professionals, but even if they were, it doesn't mean as much as one would want it to mean. even 100% vanilla phpbb i...

Re: Privacy reasons

OK PhpBB provides the software only, perhaps i am wrong here. Where do I find the host of that phpBB-forum? Where can I write my complain about that moderator? unfortunately (or fortunately, i guess - depending on your point of view), when signing as a new member of a forum there is a small (or not...

Re: Spam attacks

I have a small board for members of my fishing club and I activate manually. Am I spitting into the wind or is there some hope for this method to eventually have some success? for this type of board, my experience is that Q&A works the best. it is very easy to make up a question which will be a no-...

not exactly.
post count is *already* in users table, and query *already* runs only if post count is less than something.

Re: [3.0.x] Tweaks for large forums

The problem is your proposed solution still causes a table scan, and a table scan for a 'large forum' (the point of this thread) is a non-starter. The 'right' solution is probably either a new table or new columns in the user table, with UPDATEs on post submission. Anything that's scheduled to run ...
