Can a phpbb message board be hacked to obtain IP addresses from the database to be linked to specific usernames? I was told that this can be done. The other question would be about whether someone could hack a message board and downlaod to their own server a copy of the database for IP retrieval. I...

allow_url_fopen

My tech support has told me that I need to disable features in PHP that "can assist attackers." They are: register_globals allow_url_fopen I researched register_globals and have already disabled that value on my system. I can't find information regarding if allow_url_fopen is required for the correc...

Thanks for the reply.

It appears to have been a problem with file ownership. I changed ownership (chown) on the files and problem has been solved.

Thanks!

Oops. :) More properly I mean it has been defeated by the spammers being able to decode it. This has been well documented.

Care to explain why with the phpBB visual confirmation? Sure. The CAPTCHA that comes bundled with phpBB has been broken. I'm tired of manually having to delete spam registrations. I delete them because I refuse to allow their URL's to exist on my sites, thereby giving the spammers a benefit to thei...

Adding Perl CAPTCHA to 2.0.20

I have been working on my own customized CAPTCHA in Perl.

Any advice on how I might be able to integrate this with phpBB 2.0.20?

Thanks!

How do you search the bug tracker to make sure the bug you've found hasn't been previously reported?

I agree 1000 percent. It should be built into the standard distribution (so it doesn't have to be added as a "mod.") Because not everyone will want the same thing, it should be configurable via the Administration area of the site. And there should also be a configurable option for how many posts mus...

Where I thought you were going was to have an admin or moderator approve the first n posts for a user. Thanks for the comments! :) Regarding vulnerability in the new function: The approval link includes an activation key. They could use a deletion key for the delete link. What I'm really after is p...
