Seems as if they would have direct access to your forum database. Better you check your webspace once more for backdoors.

I updated to 2.0.11 the day it came out, and it was running fine. Then last Sunday early morning (middle of the night really) someone hacked it. My forum was hacked and devastated on 11/24. When I repaired all and updated the forum to 2.0.11. I recognized that someone already on 11/18 had installed...

I think it depends on the configuration and the os of your webspace. You should ask your provider.
