Re: Installing phpBB for the first time

Up to you. There's nothing wrong with leaving it as it is but if you want to change it you can. Just keep the _ at the end. Everything worked out fine! Thanks! The board time is an hour behind. How do I change that? an hour behind what? there are settings in the admin panel that affect the time tha...

KevC wrote:It's more likely to be down to your hosts server time but you can correct for time zones in the board settings and your own user control panel.
Thanks!

Thanks.

Prefix for tables in database is automatically filled in with phpbb_ Should I just leave it like that, or should I change it?

Re: Installing phpBB for the first time

Well that was easy. Didn't need to contact the host. Realised hosting control panel was what cPanel meant. I've set up a database now with a username and password, and granted myself all privileges. But how do I know exactly what type the database is? I know it's MySQL, but how do I find out which v...

Re: Installing phpBB for the first time

Your hosting control panel is the place on your site where you've probably seen your nameserver, cpanelmod etc. Not all hosts do this the same way so you might be better off asking them. To make the database there's usually just a 1-click wizard where you give it a name, username and password. Grea...

Re: Installing phpBB for the first time

In your hosting control panel you need to go to the MySQL manager and make a database. Then you'll know the name, username and password for it. The DSN is usually the word localhost You can usually leave the port blank. Where's my hosting control panel, how do I go to the MySQL manager, and how do ...

Re: Installing phpBB for the first time

"Decompress the phpBB3 archive to a local directory on your system." Does it matter what I call this directory? Am I gonna be using it again, or just the archive inside it? It does not matter how you are going to call this folder. You only need the contents of the archive, you upload that to the de...

"Decompress the phpBB3 archive to a local directory on your system." Does it matter what I call this directory? Am I gonna be using it again, or just the archive inside it? Inside the download is a folder called phpBB3. That's what will be on your computer. You can rename it to anything you like. "...

Installing phpBB for the first time

The instructions I'm following are a little unclear. "Decompress the phpBB3 archive to a local directory on your system." Does it matter what I call this directory? Am I gonna be using it again, or just the archive inside it? "Upload all the files contained in this archive (retaining the directory s...
