Darn. I don't want to upgrade my code yet again. I've installed about 15 mods and don't want to do it again. Does anyone know if this is available as a mod or could be implemented without too much trouble?

I don't know what it is called or I would search for it. I've seen this implemented on other boards where you have to type in the numbers/letters on a .gif in order to thwart bot registrations. Is there a mod for this???

This has nothing to do with 1016 errors; you need to upload install/update_to_latest.php from the 2.0.17 install archive, run it from your browser, then delete the install directory. When you restored your backup, it overwrote the changes made by the update. Take another backup after you run update...
