Re: remove members who have been inactive

For what it's worth. What I do is use the User Details extension and just show the option of Last visit, organize by date by clicking the tab on tap, and copy each username that has been inactive since 2017 into a text document. Now go in and find each user in your list and delete the account. I kno...

How to help protect the ACP (Admin. Control Panel)

This may or may not be entirely needed, but I've been doing this for some five years now and it can't hurt so I'll share it here for what it's worth. I'm sure a bunch of users will post that it's not needed because of how phpBB is coded with dual logins and that the code has never been hacked and al...

Re: [RC] Win10 for phpBB 3.2.9

Will this version and Aero work with phpBB 3.2.10? I'm not fully committed to going 3.3.x right now until all my extensions I have are updated or suitable replacements are found. Thanks.

Re: No LAN access

I need a little more information on how you are connecting locally via LAN. It's possible that you are not entering the URL correct. In a local environment your domain will not work. The domain would be like localhost\"this phpBB folder" Replace "this phpBB folder"with the one in...

Re: CPU Usage abuse solution needed

Just a guess, but since your new method is to use permissions to not allow the opening of topics, but just view them. Now with the extension you used prior you were able to open the topic, albeit just one. Now if a bot/s were vising your forum (which I see in your access logs and in fact happens to ...

Re: CPU Usage abuse solution needed

About the list of ASNs I block. When I block ASN/s I just note the company name in a list, not all of the ASNs themselves. That's why I said this: If you want to spend hours on this, I can give you a giant list of all the hosts/cloud provides I block and let you go to Hurricane Electric's Internet s...

Re: CPU Usage abuse solution needed

Now I find they are trying to run Wordpress's wp-cron.php (I have stopped that by following these instructions ) These are only instructions for if you use WordPress, not for phpBB. You didn't stop anything. WordPress has its own built-in cron and will fire off on WordPress page loads, etc. That's ...

Re: CPU Usage abuse solution needed

CloudFlare isn't going to help you unless you do what I have been doing for the last five years and have 78 pages of ASN blocks and other stuff. I also keep the firewall at high but not at "I'm Under Attack" which is ONLY! for when and if there is an ongoing DDoS. So many websites misuse t...

Re: NATO Phonetic Alphabet

I'm concerned more about security in email than I am the possibility of the phone being tapped Since bets and beer were mentioned. I can bet you a fine cigar that you're not using your email right now as it pertains to security. Especially if you use PGP. Never mind how the email server may be set ...

Re: NATO Phonetic Alphabet

Most cops do not know the NATO alphabet. When I was talking about law enforcement I never once said they used the NATO alphabet. I said in black and white the APCO alphabet. Read it again. Edit- You might be surprised anyway. Most cops, at least here in the U.S. were former military. Unless of cour...

Re: NATO Phonetic Alphabet

When I'm providing support to customers, particularly over the phone, I often find myself having to relay detailed character-based information, such as passwords, serial numbers, designations, and the like. In such a case, I will fall back on the NATO alphabet, given that I have a little bit of bac...

Re: Current Bot Attack

Off topic pertaining to WordPress, but if you use WordPress in addition to phpBB like I do, follow the Ninjafirewall account at Twitter. They do post all the time one plug-in after another that has a vulnerability and their updates. At least that's what I saw when I used Twitter. I use WordPress for...

Re: VPN Blocking?

If you're willing to learn, check out CIDRAM at Github, but don't ask me all kinds of questions on how to use it. Use the Github and Gitter channels. It will block an enormous amount of unsavory traffic. The author is a friend of mine and some of my suggestions made it into the project like an Abuse...
