The opening post strikes me like an echo. I believe I've already read something very similar to it.

Posted: Thu Jan 17, 2002 11:18 am: Time for some 'authoratitive' comments here I think ... So, to sum up, phpBB2 will be released when it's ready and not a day before. The next release RC-3 should be available within a week, an RC-4 will follow and perhaps an RC-5 soon after. Hopefully no more will ...

Rumor, fact, extrapolation of fact or theory? Assuming I get off my backside and manage to complete fixing the permission system problems (and if Doug would be kind enough to attempt fixes of the high priority errors he's assigned himself ...) then RC-3 is a few days away ... It seems to me that eve...

The status is that so many worthless questions are being asked on the forum that it's keeping all the developers from getting their work done. But if they only had the time to work on fixing bugs, we've been told, RC-3 would be out in three days.

I've been a regular user on about 5 or 6 UBB forums. I've witnessed many of them having problems when they get too many threads. My host (Ventures Online) won't even let me use UBB because it consumes too many resources. They do approve of vBulletin. I'm guessing that phpbb 2.0 is much better. It's ...

So the purpose of gzip encoding is to adjust the balance between bandwidth and CPU usage. It sounds like a good feature.

How does phpbb 2.0 compare with vBulletin in terms of server load when the same large number of typical users are on the board at the same time?

What do you lose if you turn off gzip encoding?

Re: forum killed server!! help?

Your account was driving the server load up too high due to your board. You may want to try using VBulletin because it generally dosen't generate as high of loads. How does phpbb 2.0 compare with vBulletin in terms of server-load when the same large number of typical users are on the board simultan...

I'm very concerned. I also have a virtual account with Ventures Online. I haven't installed phpbb 2.0 yet; I'm waiting for the final release.

Is phpbb 2.0 final going to be significantly more efficient than the current iteration?

I have a question related to this.

If I put all the phpbb files in the root directory, can I also have a bunch of html files there also? Or might there arise some sort of conflict, such as when I use the search feature on the board?

I want to do the same thing. I asked this question before http://phpbb.sourceforge.net/phpBB2/vie ... highlight= but I'm waiting for the final release before I try it. Let me know if you're successful.
