Re: "Set Names Binary" 2.0.22 to 3.0 error

Well We solved this issue.

After installing phpbb3 we went into the admin panel and set a limit on number of smilies (to 50 though 100 also worked). Then we ran the converter. We got a bunch of errors about too many smilies but it just fixed it and continued.

Re: "Set Names Binary" 2.0.22 to 3.0 error

we're running this on a dedicated server? (So we are our host) We've managed to upgrade a different phpbb2 database on the same machine with no problems. Are you suggesting its a problem with MySQL not the phpbb database? Does that mean I should try the upgrade process on a different box or somethin...

"Set Names Binary" 2.0.22 to 3.0 error [SOLVED]

We had this error a while back and we submitted it as a bug (when we tried using the betas) However it was labelled a "support request". So here we are requesting support! We have some mods installed (not many, but one includes chaning the "msn" field to display something else). We're totally willin...

Re: All I Want For 3.0 XMAS

for your blogging needs http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=475642&hilit= is quite nice and they expect they will have a phpbb3 version soon after RC1. I'd work on getting the mods and site concept sorted first. You could start a temporary phpbb2 site explaining that its temporary wh...

Re: performance on large forums

Beta5 did that as well, it was just not working as well as now. Still it's a bug if it times out. Apparantly our time out bug reports counted as "support requests", with mysql has gone away doing the SQL "Set Names 'Binary'". If that is behaving as intended there should be something that tells you ...

Re: How does phpbb 3 stand up against spambots like xru***

Is is possible that we could just set it so that it takes x ammount of time for a user to be allowed to post? The other way round works best for us. We've set it so that if someone tries to make a post that takes a small amount of time (like 2 seconds) to post, they preview it instead as bots tend ...

I ask that you don't make assumptions about what I'm doing just because you agree with this person. hehe I don't agree with this person :P Hell I'm almost a minor myself (19) and no parent of mine is going to stop me viewing whatever I want! I used to have a net nanny though I soon found a way arou...

yeah, even blacklisting forums against spam is difficult based on IPs, this kind of thing definitely would be hard to maintain!

Re: Inappropriate Material System

What nonsense - who is to determine what is inappropriate or not ? The Board creator? attempting to brand users because of something they do that you don't like. Meh, I think you've just done the same thing to iEcstacy. Besides what he's said is right. I know plenty of people who get kicks out of p...

Re: 'Create own server' (with PHPBB)

Are you sure you want to create your "own server"? EDIT: Just realise this is what you guys were saying! Currently you're using free hosting right? And they limit the mods you can install right? If you went and switched to paid hosting you could install all the mods you like and administer it fully ...

Re: Doing the phpBB.com semi-'portal' thing...

Not out of the box but there are a ton of different portals that work really simply (one called simple portal) to being a bit more complicated that you'll be able to get literally as soon as RC1 is out. You can test betas of most of them but they arn't supported so you may want to wait till RC1 (and...

Thats a shame. M2F is such a fantastic mod concept. Did you have any ideas on fixing it?
